Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [475]

Xerneas's appearance instantly illuminated the entire forest, exposing every Team Rocket member hiding in the shadows.

Seeing their ambush blown, Archer dropped all pretense.

“Everyone, charge! Rescue Boss Giovanni!”

There was no need for inspiring speeches—given Giovanni's authority in Team Rocket, these words alone were enough.

As expected, all the Team Rocket grunts instantly surged forward, ignoring August entirely as they rushed recklessly toward Koga and "Giovanni."

One ordered his Drowzee to use [Hypnosis] on Koga.

Another sent out a Mr. Mime to trap Koga with a [Light Screen].

Yet another commanded his Arbok to use [Coil] around Koga.

There was even someone planning to poison Koga with a Weezing's [Smog], though he quickly found himself facing hostile stares.

“Are you crazy? You’ll poison Boss Giovanni too!”

The Weezing trainer quickly raised his hands, protesting his innocence.

Even without Weezing’s poison attack, the sheer volume of assaults was overwhelming.

Under normal circumstances, even Koga, a ninja without any Pokémon on him, would surely be unable to escape. The only outcome would be Koga knocked to the ground, helplessly watching "Giovanni" being taken away.

But…

“Am I invisible or something?” August said mildly.

As his words fell, Xerneas’s antlers, already brilliantly illuminating the forest, shone even brighter.

Sensing danger, Archer and Petrel—tasked with slowing August down—quickly ordered their Pokémon to attack Xerneas.

“Houndoom, [Fire Blast]!”

“Weezing, [Explosion]!”

Petrel instantly commanding his Weezing to explode showed how desperate he was.

Yet the gap in power was simply too great.

Xerneas lifted its front hoof gently, tapping the ground.

A pulse of light radiated outward, effortlessly neutralizing every attack from Team Rocket’s Pokémon—including Weezing’s [Explosion].

Seeing this, the Rockets' faces turned pale.

They had assumed this was merely an unfamiliar Pokémon…

“How can it be so strong!?” Petrel muttered in disbelief.

Since his earlier defeat by August, Petrel had trained intensely, convinced his Pokémon had improved significantly. Yet now, they couldn't even survive one move, let alone harm August’s Pokémon.

Archer wanted to know the answer too. But as the head of Team Rocket’s Four Generals, he was far more level-headed.

“Retreat! Everyone retreat!”

Archer quickly threw a Poké Ball, releasing a Crobat, preparing to escape.

The situation was hopeless.

Archer was confident Giovanni would understand—he had to preserve the last sparks of Team Rocket!

But…

“You think you can come and go as you please?” August asked coldly.

At his words, a dazzling glow enveloped Xerneas. Under the horrified gazes of Team Rocket, the moon above them grew brighter and larger—

“Take cover!” Archer shouted desperately, his voice cracking.

But it was too late.

A radiant beam of moonlight struck down from above. Unlike ordinary gentle moonlight, this beam carried terrifying power.

[Moonblast]

BOOM!

Xerneas’s [Moonblast] swept across a wide radius, instantly striking down nearly every Pokémon on Team Rocket’s side. Only Archer’s and Petrel’s Pokémon barely managed to remain standing—though just barely.

Even then, they stared at Xerneas with pure fear.

What Pokémon is this? Why have we never heard of it?

But none of that mattered. Seeing some Pokémon still standing, Xerneas swiftly followed up with another attack—

[Dazzling Gleam]

A blinding flash erupted through the forest.

Now, not a single Team Rocket Pokémon remained standing.

Fortunately, thanks to Xerneas’s perfect control, all the Rockets themselves merely passed out—except Archer and Petrel.

Looking at the pair’s grim expressions, August smiled warmly. “Allow me to formally introduce you to Xerneas—the Legendary Pokémon of Kalos!”

Archer and Petrel completely gave up resisting.

From start to finish, August hadn’t even brought out Rayquaza or Mewtwo—he hadn’t even needed Gardevoir.

What had they been thinking, trying to exchange hostages with someone like him?

That was just seeking their own demise!

But it was too late to regret.

Still, the two felt slightly consoled knowing their boss Giovanni had witnessed their unwavering loyalty.

Archer and Petrel turned toward "Giovanni."

Seeing their gazes, August paused, then smiled.

He also glanced toward “Giovanni.”

“Enough playing around. You can stop pretending now!” August called.

To Archer’s, Petrel’s, and even Koga’s utter shock, "Giovanni" casually wiped a hand across his face, revealing Gary underneath.

Gary proudly grinned. “How about it—did I nail the performance?”

Archer and Petrel stood frozen. They hadn’t imagined August would deceive them with a fake Giovanni!

Koga finally understood why August had shouted for him to let go when he’d tried grabbing "Giovanni."

Did I accidentally mess up August’s plan? Luckily, Archer and Petrel had still been captured, or else he'd have really looked like a Rocket spy.

Hearing Gary’s proud question, Koga subconsciously replied, “Pretty convincing, just a bit shorter than the real Giovanni.”

Gary had been about to celebrate his victory, but Koga’s comment about his height turned him visibly green.

Gary instantly turned to August. “You know what? I’m starting to think Koga is secretly with Team Rocket. Should we just arrest him too?”

Koga: “…”

August burst into laughter.

Lies never hurt—only truths did. Clearly, Koga’s casual comment had deeply wounded Gary’s pride.

Koga, nicely done! August subtly gave Koga a thumbs-up.

Watching August completely ignore them, Archer and Petrel felt humiliated but powerless. They'd lost utterly—what could they possibly say?

Fortunately, August hadn’t completely forgotten them.

“Now, how about telling me the locations of Team Rocket’s remaining bases?” August said pleasantly. “With all your executives captured, your remaining forces have no hope anyway. Might as well exchange your information for reduced sentences.”

Petrel visibly hesitated.

August had a point. Team Rocket was finished; saving himself was a sensible choice.

Yet Archer immediately refused, his voice firm: “Team Rocket never betrays our comrades!”

August’s smile widened. “I like your spirit! I’ll reward you by giving you a cell with Lt. Surge.”

Everyone knew Lt. Surge had offended someone important, so his prison treatment was notoriously harsh—even the Rockets knew this.

Archer turned his head away silently.

Petrel, terrified he'd end up sharing Archer’s punishment, quickly shouted, “I know! I’ll talk!”

“Petrel!” Archer glared at him.

But Petrel felt no shame. He’d already given so much to Team Rocket. With the organization collapsing, wasn't it reasonable to think about himself?

August smiled approvingly.

He’d known from first glance Petrel was prime traitor material!

...

Petrel’s detailed confession included Team Rocket’s Goldenrod City base, a hidden bank account, and several secret businesses.

But because he was less trusted than Archer, Petrel didn’t know about deeper secrets—such as hidden spies within the League. Those could only be extracted from Giovanni, Matori, Archer, and Ariana.

Still, August was satisfied.

Once the remaining bases were cleared, even if some Rocket remnants survived, the organization was effectively destroyed.

“At last, I’ve personally ended the group that usurped our Original Team Rocket’s name,” August declared dramatically. “I've waited a long time for this!”

“From now on, there’ll be only one Team Rocket—the Origin Team Rocket!”

Koga: “…”

Gary: “…”

Logic told them August was joking, but instinct screamed this might actually be August’s true ambition.

There was a saying: the truth often comes disguised as a joke.

After dealing with this mess all night, August brought the captured Rockets back to Mahogany Town. League officers responsible for taking custody were already waiting.

Though prepared, the officer still paused in shock upon seeing the scene.

“Elite Four Koga…why are you wearing Team Rocket’s uniform? Could it be—”

Only then did Koga remember he still wore Rocket attire.

He quickly cleared his throat. “I was undercover. Definitely undercover.”

The officer’s eyes filled with admiration at Koga’s courage.

As soon as the officer left, Koga immediately felt August’s gaze behind him.

“Undercover?” August smiled meaningfully.

“August, I can explain!” Koga coughed awkwardly.

“No worries. I’ve got plenty of time to hear your excuses,” August said casually.

“It’s not what you think—”

Nearby, Gary rubbed his swollen eye, squatting beside Slowpoke Well with a curious Slowpoke as he watched the unfolding drama.

“Slow—”

Suddenly, a small girl holding a Furret peeked around a corner.

“Is that Big Brother August?”

...

Due to encountering an acquaintance, August temporarily halted Koga’s interrogation.

“You can explain yourself to Lance later,” August said dismissively.

Koga inwardly grumbled, You’ve worn Team Rocket’s uniform too! But he wisely stayed silent.

August approached Chie, who hugged her Furret tightly.

“Long time no see, Chie.” August gently stroked Furret’s head.

Furret recognized August instantly—the human who’d changed its life from a wild stray to a pampered pet. It excitedly climbed onto August’s shoulder, wrapping around his neck like a fluffy scarf.

Instantly, the chilly morning felt warmer.

Seeing August greet Furret instead of patting her head first, Chie pouted.

But she was easily pacified.

August handed her a box of Pokéblocks. “Feed these to Furret, and it'll become super strong!”

“Really?” Chie’s eyes sparkled.

“Of course.”

They were specially made. Once Furret finished this box, even if it had started out weak, it would be unbeatable throughout Mahogany Town.

Chie happily put away the Pokéblocks in her little bag.

“Where’s your grandfather?” August asked.

Due to his busy schedule lately, he hadn’t seen Kurt in ages.

“Grandpa is researching a new Poké Ball,” Chie replied.

“What kind?”

“A friend from far away sent it to him,” Chie explained seriously. “Grandpa says it’s a very bad Poké Ball.”

August’s curiosity instantly piqued.

A bad Poké Ball?

“Can you take me to him?” August asked.

“Okay!” Chie held her arms open, and Furret reluctantly hopped back into her embrace.

Together, they headed to Kurt’s house.

...

When August opened the door to Kurt’s workshop, he saw Kurt staring intently at a Poké Ball on his workbench, surrounded by high-tech instruments.

Though Kurt usually crafted Poké Balls by hand, he never rejected advanced technology—only poorly made products.

Hearing the door, Kurt asked without turning around, “Is that you, Chie?”

“Yes, Grandpa!” Chie announced cheerfully. “Big Brother August is here too, along with his friends!”

Kurt immediately spun around, eyes brightening upon seeing August.

“August! Perfect timing—I was about to call you!”

“Huh?” August blinked in confusion.

With surprising agility for his age, Kurt swiftly grabbed August’s arm, dragging him excitedly toward the workbench.
