Blue-Eyes White Dragon: Adopted by the King of Knights [91]

Jeanne Alter’s tears were like a sudden storm.

They arrived with fierce intensity, as though intending to wash away every injustice and grievance in the world, extinguishing even the flames of rage that had constantly burned within the Witch.

Yet, they departed without a trace.

In an instant, the winds ceased, the rains cleared, the dark clouds dissipated, and sunlight broke through.

A brilliant smile emerged on the witch’s tear-streaked face, blossoming into the most beautiful scene imaginable.

Unfortunately, this vision lasted but a fleeting moment.

“I-I wasn't crying!”

“It was just…just the fireworks choking me!”

She stubbornly insisted, despite the undeniable truth right in front of her—indeed, out of everything about her, only her mouth was truly unyielding.

“Alright, let’s head back!”

“These were just minor setbacks… We haven’t lost yet!”

Jeanne Alter hastily wiped her face, and immediately, that familiar arrogant smile appeared again.

—As it turned out, even a fool had a fool’s advantage.

If Artoria had encountered a scenario where all her Knights of the Round Table betrayed her… surely she’d have collapsed under the weight of it long ago?

Bluey escorted Jeanne Alter back to the castle in Orléans.

Waiting there for nearly two hours already, Elizabeth and Kiyohime prepared another surprise for Jeanne Alter.

“Huh? Why are you two here?!”

She asked in a delighted tone—though she quickly realized such excitement hardly suited her established aloof persona. Her face immediately hardened as she adopted a dismissive tone instead:

“As you can see, there’s nothing left to entertain you here.”

“You should leave quickly. Those traitors are probably searching the entire countryside for me. If you don't want to get dragged into my mess, get out now.”

Jeanne Alter was once again trying to shoo them away.

Upon hearing this, Bluey rolled her eyes.

This “tsundere” attitude of hers could really get exasperating at times—even Jeanne Alter herself couldn't fully control the words that spilled from her mouth.

—Clearly, she wanted them to stay, but she was worried her current situation might endanger them.

Fortunately, Elizabeth and Kiyohime weren’t the kind to mind such trivial things.

Elizabeth was overly outgoing and unabashedly self-absorbed. She could selectively ignore whatever displeased her, forcefully engaging others at will.

As for Kiyohime… beneath her outwardly cold, demure Yamato Nadeshiko demeanor lay a thoroughly obsessive spirit. She only believed what she wished to believe, acting with a stubborn “you say your thing, I’ll do mine” mentality. It was an odd character trait, yet perfectly complemented Jeanne Alter’s “harsh mouth but honest heart.”

“I love this castle! Only a palace like this is worthy of an idol of my caliber!”

“I’ve decided—I’m moving in!”

Ignoring Jeanne Alter entirely, Elizabeth excitedly dashed through the castle halls, settling upon a room filled with artistic treasures and declaring it her new home.

“Those traitors…don’t sound very friendly,” Kiyohime murmured, considering the implications.

Here was the truth of her situation: summoned by this land, her original mission was to correct the distorted history. Yet, as a Berserker-class anti-Heroic Spirit, her affinity with proper Heroic Spirits was practically nonexistent, typically following the pattern of “fight first, ask questions later.”

Upon hearing that these righteous-sounding Servants had banded together, forming an orderly and just alliance, Kiyohime immediately resolved—she would absolutely avoid any contact with those virtuous-sounding people at all costs.

Titles like “Saint King,” “Hero,” “Holy Maiden,” and “Saint”—asking a monster like her to interact with those people? Might as well ask her to march straight to her death!

“I suppose I’ll settle here.”

Kiyohime quickly chose a room she liked: one on the ground floor facing the garden, where she could quietly observe the scenery outside.

“Hey! Are either of you even listening to me?!!”

Watching these two monstrous lolis ignoring her completely, busy choosing rooms for themselves, Jeanne Alter felt on the verge of losing her mind.

—Yet it stopped merely at frustration.

Though annoyed by their refusal to listen, deep down, she was genuinely touched. She had thought herself abandoned by the world, betrayed by everyone. Yet now, not only had the little dragon who never gave up on her returned, but she’d even gained two companions who, perhaps, could truly be called friends.

“All right, it’s decided! To celebrate our moving-in, I’ll perform an all-night concert tonight!”

“Shut up, you umbrella lizard! Sing a single note and I'll toss you straight out!”

“Bleh~ You jealous little Eastern bumpkin squirrel! Admit it, you just envy my magnificent voice!”

In the desolate city, the brightly lit castle resonated with the girls’ playful banter, breathing fresh vitality into this lifeless world.

“Maybe this isn’t so bad after all?”

Jeanne Alter sank into a comfortable chair, massaging her aching temples.

She was still pondering how exactly to get her revenge.

At that very moment—

Knock knock knock—

A series of knocks suddenly sounded at the castle’s main gate.

Knocking at this hour? In a city reduced entirely to ruins?

Jeanne Alter immediately sat up straight.

Elizabeth and Kiyohime, previously busy with their quarrel, stopped and simultaneously turned their attention to the ornate front door.

Knock knock knock—

The knocking persisted.

Along with it came the voices of two girls.

“It seems like no one’s here, Mash?”

“No, there definitely is, Senpai. I sense magical energy inside.”

“That must mean Servants!”
