Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [463]

Groudon desperately protested, saying it didn't want to fly anymore, begging August to let it down.

But August had already gone through all the trouble of [Terastallizing] Groudon—how could he possibly release it so easily?

Thus, under the amused gazes of numerous legendary Pokémon, Kyogre, grinning like a child who'd received a favorite balloon, dragged a struggling Groudon off toward the direction of the Hoenn Region.

"I just hope those two don't scare anyone along the way," August remarked, watching Kyogre and Groudon disappear into the distance.

"This is entirely your doing, isn't it?" Sabrina pointedly commented.

"Me? Clearly, it was Hoopa's fault." August turned to look accusingly at Hoopa.

Feeling August's gaze, Hoopa instantly ducked behind Meray.

Seeing there was no more excitement, Lugia and Ho-Oh prepared to depart as well. But before they could leave, August shamelessly plucked another handful of feathers from each.

Lugia & Ho-Oh: "..."

We'll endure it—only out of respect for Arceus!

Watching the two legends flee hastily, August gazed appreciatively at the [Silver Wing] and [Rainbow Wing] in his hands. "There really are a lot of good Pokémon in this world!"

Ignoring Sabrina’s scornful stare, August carefully pocketed the feathers, dusted his hands, and cheerfully announced, "Mission accomplished! Back to Lumiose City!"

...

Lumiose City

Diantha was anxiously pacing around the café.

Just half an hour ago, she'd received urgent news from the Kalos Weather Institute about abnormal weather and high-energy fluctuations around Dahara City.

The researchers had no idea what caused it—but Diantha, who’d personally sent August to Dahara City, had a very clear idea of what was going on.

I hope nothing terrible happened…

Looking at the alarming satellite imagery from the Institute, even through mere pictures, Diantha felt an intense dread. She knew that, had she been there herself, she'd have been powerless.

Just as she was about to call August to confirm his safety—

Ding-a-ling!

The café door swung open. August walked in casually, accompanied by Sabrina and the Baraz siblings.

Diantha stared speechlessly at August, whose clothes didn't even have the slightest crease.

Maybe I worried too much…

August noticed Diantha’s odd expression and quickly checked himself. "Is something strange about me?"

Had Mew left popcorn crumbs on him?

Atop Latias’s human-like shoulders, Mew quickly hid its half-eaten snack behind its back.

August: "..."

Why are you acting like I'm after your leftover potato chips?

Thankfully, Diantha interrupted the awkward silence, curiosity getting the better of her. "What exactly happened near Dahara City just now?"

Weather disturbances on that scale were far beyond a typical legendary Pokémon battle.

"Nothing serious," August replied lightly. "Hoopa summoned a few legendary Pokémon, so I summoned a few legendary Pokémon. We all had a nice friendly discussion. Hoopa's realized its mistake, haven't you, Hoopa?"

August tugged playfully at Hoopa’s cheeks. "Right~?"

"Stop pulling Hoopa's face!" Hoopa snapped irritably, but felt utterly helpless against August’s teasing.

It had no memory of the battle, but seeing the catastrophic aftermath made clear just how fierce the fight must've been—especially after hearing Meray mention Arceus had shown up!

Even at full strength, it couldn't possibly beat Arceus, much less now that it was weak and vulnerable again.

Watching Hoopa's face getting squished by August, Diantha struggled to imagine it as a major combatant in the epic battle she’d heard about.

Still, if the conflict was over, she could finally lift the alert she’d put in place.

As Diantha called the League to inform them that the threat had passed, August walked up to Meowstic, gently stroking its head.

Seeing Meowstic forced into submission, reluctantly allowing itself to be petted, August chuckled wickedly.

Hearing August’s sinister laugh, Hoopa shivered involuntarily, unpleasant memories surfacing.

Baraz: "..."

He once again cast a questioning look toward Meray.

Are we really sure August is a good person?

Even Meray, who previously would’ve sworn by August’s kindness, now seemed uncertain.

Is Mr. August really…a good person?

...

When Blue returned to the café with Serena, they were greeted by this peculiar scene:

August and Latias behind the counter, petting Meowstic.

Diantha busy on the phone, occasionally whispering questions to Sabrina about Dahara City.

The Baraz siblings sitting nervously in the corner.

August glanced over as the bell chimed. "Oh, Blue, Serena, you’re back? Did you get your starter Pokémon?"

"We did!" Serena replied, beaming with excitement.

"Oh?"

Under August’s gaze, Serena released a small, graceful Pokémon from her Poké Ball—a Fennekin, cute and petite, with fluffy fur and huge ears rivaling Sprigatito’s charm.

Fennekin glanced around curiously, then spotted Meowstic at the bar. To Serena’s shock, it eagerly scampered over, leaping up onto the counter.

"Fennekin!" Serena gasped anxiously. Meowstic was known for being unfriendly!

Yet unexpectedly, Meowstic not only tolerated the curious little fox—it even shared the Pokéblock it had unwillingly earned from August.

Fennekin sniffed the Pokéblock cautiously, then swallowed it under Meowstic’s encouraging gaze.

Instantly—

"Fen~ki!" it cooed blissfully, sprawling onto its back, eyes closed in absolute contentment.

Sabrina raised an eyebrow in confusion.

Since when did Fennekin react like this? Wasn't August’s Pokéblock tailored for Psychic-types?

She quickly checked her Pokédex.

Ah, Delphox, its final evolution, is Fire and Psychic. Never mind then…

Serena, witnessing her Pokémon acting so shamelessly, felt her face burn with embarrassment.

"My Fennekin…is no longer pure…" she whispered dramatically.

August immediately raised his hands, as if to say, “I had nothing to do with it!”

Gardevoir: "..."

Thankfully, Blue broke the awkward silence.

"Professor Sycamore asked me to bring the remaining two starters," Blue said, revealing two Poké Balls. "He said August could find suitable trainers for them."

All eyes turned toward Blue as she released a Froakie and a Chespin, both equally curious about their surroundings—until they spotted their former companion lounging lazily.

Serena’s face burned even hotter.

"Relax, we won't tell Ash about this," August reassured her jokingly.

Hoopa nodded eagerly alongside him, despite having no clue who "Ash" was.

Hearing Ash’s name, Serena’s embarrassment deepened. Would Ash still like me if he saw my starter behaving like this?

...

After calming Serena, August turned toward the source of today’s trouble—Meowstic.

Seeing the "tyrant" approach, Meowstic shrunk nervously, ears trembling anxiously.

But to its surprise, August didn't tease it. Instead, he asked seriously, "Meowstic, how about joining us in the International Police?"

"Meow?"

Meowstic froze in astonishment. What’s this human saying? I'm just a normal Pokémon!

August smiled knowingly. "I looked into your history. It must've been tough running this café alone. I've noticed there are no customers besides us—this place will shut down eventually. Why not join our International Police? Our Kanto branch needs a café manager, after all."

He added persuasively, "You don’t want your café to close down and end up on the streets, do you?"

Meowstic's eyes widened—it finally understood it had been set up!

This human had planned this from the beginning!

Under Meowstic’s accusing stare, August shrugged innocently, claiming he'd simply conducted routine checks and discovered Meowstic had no trainer.

Meowstic had originally been adopted by an elderly café owner. After his death, Meowstic evolved, continuing the café alone—but its aloof personality meant few customers stayed.

Before August came along, Meowstic’s café had gone a month without customers, the old man's savings almost exhausted.

Desperate, Meowstic had reluctantly allowed August to pet it, hoping to retain at least one loyal customer.

Realizing August had taken advantage of its situation, Meowstic glared angrily.

August gently persuaded, "I’m leaving Lumiose soon. Without customers, the café won't last."

"Meow…" Meowstic’s ears drooped sadly. August was right.

After long hesitation, it nodded softly, reluctantly agreeing to leave behind its old life.

Taking out a cherished Luxury Ball, Meowstic handed it to August.

August gently smiled, producing a document. "Cheer up! Look at this—I bought your café. From now on, it's our Kanto branch’s base in Kalos, and you'll manage it whenever you're not working!"

Meowstic’s eyes sparkled with joy. Overwhelmed, it happily tackled August, clinging affectionately.

"Meow~!"

"Let go! You’re just like Mew—Gardevoir, help!" August pleaded.

Gardevoir calmly sipped coffee, completely indifferent.
