Yukinoshita’s Method of Correction [27]

"What did you say?” Yuigahama Yui shot to her feet. “The film club is haunted?!”

“That’s not so strange, is it? Most schools have stories like that,” Higashigumo Sugi said, surprised by Yuigahama’s reaction. “Like a school built over a graveyard, or a body buried under a thick old tree, or the missing thirteenth step, or Hanako-san in the bathroom…”

“They’re all just rumors and urban legends—nothing to be afraid of.” Yukinoshita Yukino’s voice was calm. “There’s really no need to worry.”

“But my friend is in the film club!” Yuigahama pressed, anxious. “What actually happened?”

“I’m not sure about the details myself; I just heard it from someone else,” Zaimokuza admitted. “With graduation coming up, the film club wanted to shoot a short film to send off their seniors. But then—one of the props for the shoot… started moving on its own.”

“That actually sounds pretty interesting.” Higashigumo glanced at Yukinoshita. “Should we look into it?”

“The Service Club exists to help those who seek our help,” Yukinoshita shook her head. “If the film club hasn’t come to us, it means they don’t need our assistance.”

“Well, you say that…” Higashigumo looked at Yuigahama, who seemed deep in thought.

Someone from the film club will probably show up soon.

...

“Yahallo~!” Yuigahama’s cheerful greeting broke the peaceful rhythm of reading and training in the clubroom. “I brought the client!”

Higashigumo set down his dumbbells and wiped the sweat from his brow.

Yukinoshita placed a bookmark in her book and set it aside.

Both looked up as Yuigahama opened the door, and behind her stood a short-haired girl, smiling back at them with a cute, slightly fangy grin.

“So, you know, since I’m basically part of the Service Club now, I wanted to help out,” Yuigahama said, ushering the girl in. “When I heard about the film club yesterday, I brought Komachi along!”

Yukinoshita’s voice was crisp and clear: “Yuigahama-san.”

“No need to thank me, Yukino-chan!” Yuigahama waved off her gratitude. “As a club member, it’s just what I should do.”

“Yuigahama-san,” Yukinoshita finally managed to finish her sentence, “you’re not actually a member…”

“Huh? I’m not?” Yuigahama froze.

“She isn’t?” Higashigumo looked genuinely surprised. “She’s been coming here for days.”

“I never received her club application,” Yukinoshita explained with a blank face. “And without the advisor’s approval, she can’t be considered a member.”

“That makes sense.” Higashigumo extended his hand. “So, where’s your application? The club was founded under my name.”

“I’m afraid you’re mistaken—the Service Club was established under my name. Hiratsuka-sensei handled all the paperwork herself. She approved my application first, then brought you to the clubroom. Later, when she was sorting out the forms, she found my application and that’s how she tracked me down. Maybe she called you the club president, but in reality, that’s me. And as for your application, I’ve already approved it.” Yukinoshita clearly had all this prepared, pulling the relevant documents out of her bag.

“I can’t help you there,” Higashigumo told Yuigahama with a shrug. “Looks like I got suckered too.”

“I did write one!” Yuigahama protested, aggrieved. “I’ll write as many as it takes.”

“One is enough.” Although she’d only won this round thanks to Hiratsuka’s paperwork mistake, Yukinoshita’s eyes were shining with a rare hint of satisfaction. “Now then, this student…”

“I’m Hikigaya Komachi, Yui’s classmate. Just call me Komachi!” the girl said brightly. “I didn’t believe it at first, but wow, this really is a flirting club!”

Yukinoshita: “……”

“I’m writing my application right now…” Yuigahama ducked her head, scribbling furiously on loose-leaf paper under Yukinoshita’s icy gaze.

“To clear up any misunderstandings, let me explain,” Higashigumo pointed at Yukinoshita. “Our relationship is one of correction and being corrected. To put it simply, I noticed some problems with her, so I’m working to help her overcome them.”

“I’m the one correcting you,” Yukinoshita countered with a frosty glare. “Don’t get it backwards.”

“So, not flirting after all,” Hikigaya Komachi’s gaze drifted between them, then she clapped her hands. “But really, what you’re doing is pointing out each other’s flaws, staying together every day, and trying to make each other better—am I right?”

“Exactly, Komachi!” Yuigahama gave her a thumbs-up. “You get it way better than I do.”

“Hehe.” Komachi winked. “That answer deserves top marks, right?”

Higashigumo & Yukinoshita: “…”

It did feel like Komachi had nailed it… but somehow, something seemed off.

Yukinoshita took a quiet breath, determined not to linger on the topic. “So, what brings you here?”

“It’s about the film club.” Komachi sat up straight, like a student answering in class. “It was supposed to be a great thing, but now there’s talk of a haunting, and everyone’s spooked. Even the filming schedule’s gotten delayed. So I want to ask you for help—can you solve this for us?”

“An exorcism, huh?” Higashigumo stroked his chin. “I have a friend who’s an exorcist, and I’ve learned a few spells myself. We could give it a shot.”

“Spells?” Yuigahama looked up, eyes wide. “Those are real?”

“There’s one technique in particular—the Great Transportation. I only know the basics, but it’s really useful.” Higashigumo gestured mysteriously.

Yuigahama’s eyes sparkled. “The Great Transportation? What does it do?”

“You can get anything you want.”

“That’s amazing!” Yuigahama jumped up in excitement. “Can you show us?”

“I could even teach you.”

“Really?”

“Of course.” Higashigumo paused. “But, you know, special techniques aren’t handed out lightly. Anyway, do you remember the Service Club’s perks?”

“Clients get drinks!” Yuigahama recalled immediately. “Komachi, what do you want?”

“There are perks? Awesome!” Komachi cheered. “I’ll have SPORTOP!”

“Leave it to me! Yukino-chan, you want strawberry yogurt, right…” Yuigahama turned to Higashigumo. “And you?”

“Iced cola.”
