Old School Blues Licks & Riffs - Bessie Smith "Backwater Blues"

Hello friends,

Welcome back to Swiftlessons for another old school blues tutorial. One of the best ways to diversify your skills and make your playing sound more unique is to dig into obscure tracks or to adapt techniques employed by other instrumentalist. In today's session we will do both as we master lead and rhythm techniques performed by pianist James P. Johnson on the iconic 1927 recording of "Backwater Blues." Let's get started!

Will you be posting the tabs in a downloadable format? I can't find them here. Thanks.

Nice lesson, thanks! One slight alternative fingering on measure 21 would be to use string 2 fret 9 (G#) instead string 1 fret 4 (G#) on beat 3.

Great breakdowns as usual Rob. FYI, I signed up for your Truefire Acoustic Etude lessons and found them very useful. Keep up the great work and hope all is well with your new studio and family. Best wishes. Steve
