The Platters "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" Guitar Tutorial

Hello friends,

Welcome back to Swift Guitar Lessons for another by request song tutorial. In celebration of this year's Valentine's Day, let's add another classic love song to our repertoires. "Smoke Get's in Your Eyes" was written by American composer Jerome Kern and lyricist Otto Harbach for the 1933 musical Roberta. Since its publication, the tune has been covered by several notable artist - such as Nat King Cole, Charlie Parker, and Sarah Vaughan - however, we will be basing our interpretation on The Platter's iconic 1959 rendition. Together we will learn how to play a basic fingerstyle rhythm and the tune's spellbinding chord progressions. Let's get started! -Rob

Wow, your singing is outstanding! Love songs: L-O-V-E by Nat Kingcole. It is jazzy with a fast beat and would be fun to learn. Also, “ Loving You” by Elvis. I love the acoustic version of this song especially the intro.

Take My Breath Away (from Top Gun)

To Know, Know, Know You Is to Love, Love, Love You

“Lady” written by Lionel Richie, recorded by Kenny Rodgers

Great vocals and playing.

Thanks, Rob! I also would appreciate “If I needed you” Towns Van Zandt & “I Will Always Love You” Dolly Parton or “When You Say Nothing At All” Keith Whitley

Excellent lesson again Rob, thanks. A good singalong for me too, as I am comfortable an octave down from you.

Also damn! Beautiful version of Smoke!
