Set Your Solos on Fire with this Minor Blues Scale Lick!

Hello friends,

Welcome back to Swiftlessons for another lead guitar tutorial. In today's session, let's discover an alternate way of performing our common blues scale and master an ear-catching lick utilizing speedy hammer-ons, pull-offs and bluesy embellishments. Let's get started!

Section #1 - The Minor Blues Scale

The minor blues scale is perhaps the most crucial scale utilized within the blues genre. Essentially, it is a minor pentatonic scale with the inclusion of a b5 interval. In the tablature below, let's learn how to perform this scale in it's common "E Shape" position, making sure to practice playing the b5 on both the G and B strings.

Section #2 - Lick of the Week

The following lick offers an exciting escape route from the typical minor pentatonic scale. Use over minor chord progressions or add a major 3rd interval when jamming in the major tonality, as demonstrated in our video lesson. Because this is a longer phrase, I recommend breaking it up into three digestible chunks.
