Uncle John's Band - Grateful Dead Guitar Lesson - Rhythm Study

Hello friends,

Tonight I'm hard at work, preparing new chord sheets and also putting the finishing touches on my new song tutorial, which should be complete by tomorrow afternoon. I'm eager to complete your request for chord sheets and tabs for my older lessons, and at the top of that list was "Uncle John's Band" by the Grateful Dead. Use the video above to study the incredible rhythm guitar work, and click below to access my new chord sheet and tab. Enjoy!

Great song. It helps strumming to know the tune well. It's a classic. Thanks Rob!

Thanks Rob. I've listened to this classic off Working Man's Dead since the early 70s. Now learning to play those strum patterns is going to be a challenge.

Great tutorial, I'm actually an ukulele player, but couldn't find anything as detailed as this specifically by uke instructors. I've got a question about lining up the strumming guide with the chord sheet/tab. The first line in the first verse in the tab has just two chords, G & C, and then the next line has G,C,G. The first two lines in all of the rest of the verses match with G,C,G and so does the strumming pattern, so I'm wondering if that is a mistake in your tab sheet and you left off the G at the end of the first line? I've looked at a couple of other tab sheets and they mostly indicate that the G is missing. I've seen several that also throw in a C above "hardest" and "easy", but that seems like typical variation in transcription/style/etc. Thanks!

Dang. All these years playing this so out of sync. This is truly a tough one to nail. You did an unreal job explaining a very tough rhythm. Love Jerry, a truly great underrated guitarist..
