A Quick PSA

Hey all!

Welcome to so many lovely new supporters recently, it's amazing to see such love for these games I am playing and I am very grateful.

A very important reminder here, that on my YouTube I do not wish for any spoilers, backseating or advice and prefer to learn in the game to not compromise a blind playthrough. In terms of what I consider a spoiler, I wish to know nothing outside of what the game shows me.

The same thing goes for Patreon too, please keep this in mind as I have asked politely for this very often, and would appreciate it greatly. Keep in mind I am a few episodes ahead in terms of recording for this very reason, to maintain a genuine blind experience.

Thanks for watching!

Mapo says he prefers the truly blind play experience basically every video so it shouldn’t be that hard to get, can it?

New folks coming to the channel don't know what to expect? What a shocker.

I joined specifically for Baldurs Gate 3 and I absolutely agree that spoilers must be a big no no, the game is different for everyone and I really want you to experience it to the fullest without getting anything ruined

"DnD Universe" what, can't discuss messy lore and any of settings, modules, adventures, that have nothing to do with Forgotten Realms? No way, lmao Honestly, I get it, DnD rules could give a hint, even if it is Larian homebrew, why push the player, let them cook and learn (and if they don't - ok, we could discuss it later when they finish the run). Discussing some lore? Idk, it is a hot mess and a melting pot of the million of fantasy tropes mixed with really unique and cool stuff. Who knows, I will never presume to be an expert even on small part of it, so I usually don't talk about it. In this case I'll let the game provide all the info through books, contextual notes, dialogue and so on - it is actually how it is meant to be in this game. That's partially why there is no codex, even tho I'm one of those people who asked for it since EA - it is meant to be understood, as I said, through books, notes, dialogue, items description and so on, and thus any discussion of DnD universe out presented in the game, would be considered meta-gaming. Plus, I think, that Swen kind of a that nerd who tries to re-create his experience, especially with Ultima 7, where he needed an actual notepad to write important info/lore/story bits. This is the type of game. It is a campaign crafted by DM (Larian) with specific bits and pieces in mind, specific mechanics, encounters and such, let the DM explain and player learn (it is deliberately not all DnD lore, because it would just break the new player's brain) As far as I'm concerned, it is valid to discuss what is presented in certain EP, without giving advices on gameplay and narrative/player agency. I saw something - valid to talk about it, if it is something that player knows, saw, experienced and such. Saying "you can do this btw" when the player can figure out and do themselves is backseating, same with "Yeah, in lore it is such and such" - if it wasn't presented in the game to the player or player learned themselves, it is meta-info, and thus even worse than backseating (meta for DnD campaign is bad-bad). If someone want to politely point specifics that are backseat and such, and explain why - all good, and if it is so and valid explanation, I'll delete. If someone is impolite about it - this is anything thing entirely.

Just talking about basic D&D rules will get you in trouble, I already had someone accuse me of backseating for a nothing comment. Honestly I would avoid talking about anything in the game or D&D universe otherwise you risk pissing someone off.

Hats off to the moderators, your work here is invaluable!

true i played through the game twice and its insane how different each playthough was, i got things, did things and met people i didnt even know existed in my first playthrough.

Its not that people can't control themselves with b3, its that each way of doing "this thing" is valid, even tho there are ofc optimal and sub-optimal ones. But each person, especially if they played only once, fairly thinks that how they experiencedd the game is how the game is, which in case of bg3 almost guaranteed not true, since it is personalized experience. That's why people go for forever with "do this to get this", "this works this way", "this supposed to happen, why it didn't happen for you?". Not that they backseat necessarily, just can't cope with the idea of the number of permutations in the game. And there are so many "things" to do, from level-up and choices on equipment to variance when cutscene happen (if they even happen) and characters showing up and so on. Like, backseating is annoying because it trumps the learning experience and fun of blind playthrough, but in case of BG3 backseating is also just wrong info (specific to that person playthrough) at least 50% of time lol.

Nick Rubin

i wont be surprised if bg3 will be your most back seated game you will ever do so many options on what to do and how to do them, people probably wont be able to control themselves.

Good luck, we're all counting on you.

Grape Ape

I completely respect that, sorry for my comment earlier. I hope for the fullest experience of majoras mask because it can be hell without help. But you got save states so that’s great!

Scott Bringel

Hopefully nobody spoils anything! Let's all stay respectful of what Mapo wants!

Steven Fenyes

Love that you want to experience the games as blindly as possible. It makes watching you very enjoyable.
