Project Poll 20

I've spent a bit of time thinking if I wanted to do a new hair since it can be quite the workload to take on. It has been quite some time since the last one though and I think I can fit it in now, I am in a somewhat good position with my schedule. 

Most if not all here are on the longer side and a decent amount are free flowing. I've only gotten one chance to make long free flowing hair and that was the first I ever attempted. Pretty much all since then have been tied into buns/ponytails or were short/medium at best. Needless to say I think I've gotten a bit more experienced since then and can do better, so I am leaning more into that direction with this poll.

Options:


1. God of War Freya hair

- patron suggested

- quite a lot going on here, visually, multiple braids and ornaments. I'm not sure if I would call it complex though in spite of that (definitely on the difficult side though). It's pretty much a half up half down style that goes into a single direction with different elements separate elements in between. Maybe I'm just underestimating it and will feel the brunt after, if it gets picked. It does gives plenty of opportunity for attempting and practicing braids though, I still never got a chance to try those xD


2. Street Fighter Cammy hair

- patron suggested. There was actually a version with long hair free flowing hair suggested, not this double braided one, but since options like that already exist in the poll, I figured this version would provide more choice variety. I'm not a Street Fighter player, but every time I've seen this character, this hairstyle was used, so it's probably more iconic and fitting to the character as well.

- this one's actually pretty straightforward when compared to some of the others on this poll. Actually I think it's probably the fastest on the poll or second at worst, so it has that going for it. 

- yes, I'll also be making that army beret hat afterwards if this gets picked, would feel like a missed opportunity if I didn't.

- one final thing to consider is motion/animation. Those long braids might look weird without proper physics or collision. Gonna try on this front but as always I make no guarantees here, I'm a 3D modeler, not rigger/animator, so keep that in mind.

3. Straight medium hair

- patron suggested. Pretty simple straight style overall. Don't really have much to say about it.

- I might go slightly longer, but I guess I'll see about that if it gets picked.

4. Asuka Langley hair

- this was actually not supposed to be in here, kind of a last minute addition. I had music in the background as I was compiling this list and "cruel angel's thesis" came up, so I figured why not :P

- basically high pigtails with a free flowing middle back. Not too difficult, not easy either, I guess it's middle of the road in this poll. Has potential to look very good though which is why I decided to include it.

5. Long Fishtail Braid

- this was in the past hair poll and was #2 in terms of votes, so there was definitely interest in it. Even though I said I'd mostly prefer a free flowing style in the beginning, I don't do these polls too often so I figured I should give it another chance here.

6. Half shaved

- I used this image in the past project poll with an unrelated purpose, but I noticed some interest being expressed in the hairstyle, so putting it as an option as well.

- I'm not necessarily a huge fan of the half shaved look but I guess I don't love it or hate it. It's fine, but also one of the faster styles to make here, by virtue of being ... well ... half a head.

7. Side swept long hair

- was also in one of the past hair polls and was also #2 in votes similar to option 5 if I recall correctly. I remember describing it as beautiful, extremely time consuming and complex at the time. Yeah ... that hasn't changed. Not only is it long and the structure difficult to pull off, it also wavy rather than straight, so difficulty is further added on top. I probably wouldn't have a fun time making this, but the end result might make the effort worth it :)

8. Custom hair design

- yeah so ... are you feeling lucky ? It might be something you love or something you dislike. I don't have an image here, because I'd be doing my own thing rather than following a specific existing style and I'm unsure if there is an image out there that looks like what I want to make. Definitely trying to find it would be pointless, if not impossible. Hint though, it's definitely long hair too.

- I feel confident enough that I'd be able to pull this off nowadays without really having a main reference to follow and I think it could look really nice.

- at the same time, if you've ever made something and later said "yeah, that looked better in my mind", there is a real risk of that happening here, as at this point I just have a vague untested image in my head. I don't know how well it would fit or work on a 3D head. 

- Worst case scenario, the idea I have doesn't work at all (I will of course do a quick blockout sketch before, rather than wasting dozens of hours on something that doesn't look right). In that case, I guess I'll be in "do whatever I want mode" and there are other styles I have my eye on.

- So yeah, I guess at the end of the day, this poll option can also be translated to "I don't want any of the options on this poll, do whatever you want as long as it's not these". If you feel that way, this is probably the one to pick :P
