The Gorgon's Tale - p. 1 & 2 roughs

I hope you guys find this interesting. I've had this idea kicking around for some time, thought maybe I'd try it as a fantasy novel - but went ahead and started sketching it. I was always intrigued by the Medusa myth, and always saw her portrayed as evil, as in a Wonder Woman comic run some years back. I thought of her more as a tragic figure - once beautiful, then cursed by Athena because of a dalliance with Poseidon in her temple. She must be full of regret and longing to be her old self again. So maybe finding a portrait artist to capture that lost self, and in the process relate how she became the Gorgon...

I know you have touched on myth so many times in your series (John is a modern incarnation of a mythical figure), it's wonderful to see you tackle this and your images here have an elegance to them. I love the parallel arches framing the hero and the gorgon herself. Your visual narrative sense is very keen, you focus your artist's eye on where we want to go next in the story.

Thanks! Yes, I've seen some fiction and non fiction interpretations of it - the artist idea came from my doing caricatures and usually I would ask a littke about the person to break the ice and incorporate something in the drawing.

I think it's a really interesting take on this story. I bet there are modern parallels for this interpretation.
