Mort’s Amputation [tw some blood]

If you haven’t already, check out the video posted prior to this for the full story regarding Mort’s tail.

Luckily, the vet responded and was able to get him in for an amputation this week. I’m still pretty upset because once they started amputating they said they could see how his tail had become infected far past what we were able to see on the surface. This led to them needing to amputate most of the tail. This could have been avoided if amputation was suggested earlier.

Albeit, he seems well and completely unbothered by the procedure. He is still able to move around quite well and overall he is looking much better than he was when he arrived in February.

Speaking of his arrival, when he first came to me he was skin and bones. It was almost scary to pick him up because he felt like he was going to break. He weighed in at 3.2 pounds. Male Opossums his age usually weigh about 6-8 pounds. I’m happy to announce that he is now officially 5 pounds and a healthy weight for the first time in his life!

Jackie!! Newt, Mort and Fig! This would be my dream come true! 🥺

I do hope he keeps getting better. Poor little dude, but he can't be in better hands than he already is. Love him! Always rooting for him.

sending mort lots of love!!!

Love Mort and hope he continues to heal and just gets better overall ❤️

That's awesome that he's gaining weight!!! All those yummy sneccks 💙💙💙 I'm curious though, what's their prognosis on his tail now? Should we be concerned he may need to lose more? Also, even curiouser - are his possum pebbles BLUE? 👀😂

Marie

Is this what fig was like at the beginning of his healing journey?

I hope he'll feel so much better when everything is healed.

He is so lucky to have you. Thanks for taking great care of him and for giving him the best home he could ever have. You are truly a blessing to these animals that are in your care.

I love him SO much

so sad that this could have been a little better if done earlier, but he's a strong little guy, and so lucky to have you to take care of him. Go Mort, you're gonna beat this thing!
