Finch

Finch passed away today.

I’m sorry to bring you such sad news after so many hopeful updates. I want you to know I think he passed peacefully. I hope he did.

He waited until we weren’t home to slip away. We’d been with him consistently all weekend. Neither Zach or myself had left the house. We were only gone two hours today and when we came back it was apparent that he had passed not long after we left.

He seemed “fine” as fine as he could be with his condition. N...

Landing in Miami at 12pm

Good morning my lovelies! I’m getting ready to board our flight to Miami to pick up the Newt’s baby brother. I’m so excited. His foster @louietheraccoon has been watching him all week and sending me updates. She said he’s finally coming out of his shell and is WILD. A perfect match for Newt.

We have a 7 hour drive back home after I pick him up and I’d like to let him settle in a bit before introducing them. I really hope they hit it off.

I have literal butterflies, I’m so excited

So, here’s the thing. I didn’t want another raccoon. They’re so difficult and time consuming. I told myself from the second I got Newt that this would not turn into a raccoon household, but as time has gone on I’ve become increasingly aware that Newt needs a companion.

I’ve tried to fill that void with friends like Fern and Howie, but both of them tire so quickly when Newt can wrestle for hours. He wants constant companionship and the foxes, dogs, and myself cannot offer that ...

He’s feeling a little peppy today

Of course my phone died at the cutest part.

After getting his addrenal support tincture he really perked up. He’s been bopping around the house most of the day and is really wanting to be outside with everyone. I’m happy he’s in good spirits today.

Eyeballs, babies, and my “good morning”voice

First of all, the baby voice is involuntary. I’m sorry. 😅

I was really bummed out today when I realized I accidentally booked our vet appointment to assess the boy’s eyes for next Tuesday and not today, but to my surprise they’re looking much better today! I’m still going to take one of them in just to get an assessment on Friday since I have to take the babies in for their booster shots that day, but overall I think we’re in the clear and it was probably just a little vira...

Opinions?

I’ve been working on some new merch for the store update and this is one of the designs I have in mind for the next drop. You all have been begging for some Jam Jar representation and this really encompasses the entire personality of our little miscreant. I can’t tell if I love it or hate it though, what do you think?

Also given the colors I think it needs to be on a white shirt, but if not white what color would you like to see?

I came home to a surprise

The vet is going to be able to build a new wing on their building after the number of visits we’ve had the last few months 😅😭

Finch Update

It’s been 6 days since I’ve seen Finch eat.

I’m not sure if he’s drinking on his own.

I called our primary vet this morning and asked if I could bring him in for fluids because he was visibly dehydrated. We just left after getting 2/3 of what he needed because he began trashing around too much to keep the needle in. I didn’t want to sedate him again.

My arms are covered in bruises from where he’s bitten me from trying to crate him and medicate him. He’s stres...

Finch isn’t feeling well

He’s stable and alert, but is definitely not himself. I haven’t been able to get him to eat more than a few bites of food at a time. This all started on Saturday. He went to the vet first thing Monday morning and so far they haven’t found any reason for his distress. We are waiting for his blood work results now.

Finch and Fig - Fox Social Dynamics

Finch loves the other adult foxes and I’ve always hopped that they would eventually accept him. Fig who is typically the calmest and sweetest in demeanor was always my first pick for friendship, so it surprised me when Fig never accepted Finch, but Juniper did.

Now, 3 years later, Fig occasionally acts like he’s going to befriend Finch. I put them together every few months to see if things will be different. This was by far the longest they had been together without fighting, but a...

Elmwood feeds a baby?!

First of all I’m sorry for the bad quality of this video, but this happened so suddenly and my mind was on getting the baby leashed up before Elmwood changed his mind and then also making sure Elm didn’t attack him immediately after feeding him. He’s been iffy with the babies.

I’m SO proud of Elmwood. He’s never made this sound prior to this instance, and this vocalization normally means that their parental instincts are taking over. Everyone else has taken to the babies wonde...

I CAN’T wait to meet you!

I’m so stinkin’ excited. This was a lot of fun and I’m thrilled to offer this kind of opportunity to you guys every few months. Even though this was as fair as possible it’s still hard just announcing ONE winner when so many of you wanted to come. I wish I could have you all over for a massive get together!

Congrats Kelli Osborn!

Special thanks to my mom for painstakingly entering in all the names on a spreadsheet for me. I could not have sat down long enough...

Everyone meets the babies

The little ones are still so small so I’m not leaving them unsupervised with the adults yet, but each day they all grow more and more comfortable with each other.

It was bound to happen

I think out of all of the foxes I’ve raised, Fern is the only one that hasn’t bitten me in the face. They all get a bite of me eventually.

The little white fox is another highly opinionated lady, just like miss Juniper.

It’s a shame to have such a cute face and not want anyone to kiss it. 😂

Foxes or sharks

Even after years of selective breeding, foxes are still very much wild animals. I put the four babies together in their outdoor enclosure. They’ve been completely fine with each other in the house, so after monitoring them for about 30 minutes in the enclosure I came inside to say goodbye to Zach before he went off to work.

I was inside 10 minutes.

When I came back out, two of the babies had each other by the throats. Locked and thrashing. I’m sure this marble female was the ...

I made it to Minnesota

It’s been such a long trip but I’m enjoying my visit. I’m taking four fox pups from SaveAFox in Minnesota. These pups were pulled from a fur farm for various reasons and those reasons have luckily spared their lives. I’ll be keeping at least one of these babies. In my previous post about him I mentioned he had an eye defect like Fig, but since his infection has cleared it seems as though he actually has a nearly fully functioning eye which is a nice surprise! The other two ...

I hope Finch likes his new friend…

I’m so happy to announce that I’ll be bringing home a few new fur farm rescues this weekend! This was meant to be a foster situation, but the little one pictured is missing an eye just like Fig and needs some special medical care so I’ve decided to keep this little dude. My hopes are that he becomes Finch’s companion since Finch craves socialization with the others.

It’s kit season for red foxes. During this time both male and female bodies go into a instinctual parenting mo...

Mort’s Amputation [tw some blood]

If you haven’t already, check out the video posted prior to this for the full story regarding Mort’s tail.

Luckily, the vet responded and was able to get him in for an amputation this week. I’m still pretty upset because once they started amputating they said they could see how his tail had become infected far past what we were able to see on the surface. This led to them needing to amputate most of the tail. This could have been avoided if amputation was suggested earlier.

Still traveling, but feeling thankful

I’m sure I’ve mentioned it already, but this is the first time I’ve ever been able to be away from the animals for this many consecutive days. Normally even being away a few days I’m extremely worried and constantly checking the security cameras to make sure they’re okay. This trip has been very different.

For the first two days I had a friend watch them and while he made several mistakes that my mom walked into on day 3, I’m grateful he stepped up. No harm, no foul.

Meet and Greet?

Alrighty my favorite friends, I’m just throwing this out there to get a feel on how this would be received, but I’m thinking about doing a giveaway meet and greet with all the animals. To enter you would just need to be a Patron during the month of May and June and I would select one winner mid June. The winner would be able to choose their own time to come to make it extra convenient as many of you are out of state. Before I host this little shendig, I wanted to see how many of you would...
