Qs needed for Even More Qs!

You all know the drill. If you have questions for Katy and Cody, this is where to ask them. We'll take questions about anything, but here are some potential topics to get your Q brain working:

The election -- The next 7 months are going to be utter hell, right?

Love Is Blind and other reality TV -- Trevor, Jeremy, and Sara, am I right? And don't even get me started on Walter, Bella, Quigley, and Muffinhead.

Food fads -- Nashville Hot Chicken is everywhere these days! Remember the cupcake craze? Ahh... food.

Also – we're recording this in March, and St. Patrick's Day will be long over by the time this episode is released, but just to stay on theme – what's the luckiest or unluckiest thing to ever happen to you? Let us know here (or, if you want to remain anonymous, email submissions@somemorenews.com) and we might read your message and talk about it on EMQs.

I figure you’ll ask for more Q’s when the next episode comes around but I have a question for Cody. Do you listen to Doctor Dog’s older work? As I was listening to the hot shapes on SoundCloud, Wilderness Brings reminded me of a bit of their older stuff from “Fate” or “Be the Void.” Thought it was neat. Scratched a musical itch I haven’t heard much outside of that group.

Trump really didn't get much done first term, largely because he's not actually beholden to the conservative base. He will do everything he can to make sure he never has to go to jail, but honestly I do think self-preservation is more important to him than destroying democracy to help a bunch of old Republicans that he doesn't even really like. He will be hard pressed to find people who can both stomach him and also will be taken seriously by the establishment. His staff and cabinet will include many inept opportunists, just like it did last time. The mission of the deep right is scary, I agree, but there's an entire sect of the Republican party that cares more about profits than anything, and fucking with our very system of government would not be good for the stock market, tbh. There are still sane people at the top levels. Evil, but sane.

The risk of him winning is distressingly high, I agree, but it's still not that high. From a completely pragmatic perspective of American politics, it would be something of a miracle. Grover Cleveland is the only president in history to win while seeking a non-consecutive term. Recent polls (which should always be taken with a huge grain of salt) show that Biden is clearly ahead (3-4%) in a direct match up. It's only when 3rd-party candidates are included that Trump gets very slight 1% edge. So to allay some of your concerns, the absolute best estimates for Trump only have him within the margin of error. Even Nader couldn't siphon more than 3%, I'm not sure this year's field of 3rd-party candidates can do better than that. If they don't swing more than ~5% Biden takes it. As far as project2025, that shit is scary to be sure, but look at how inept Trump's administration was the first time around. If Trump wins you shouldn't immediately assume we're going to be under martial law and become a fascist dictatorship overnight. Never forget there was a cadre of personnel, particularly in the military, that weren't about to let him go rogue in his first term. Those people are still there, though none of his cabinet or staff will be the same, I'm sure. There are still checks and balances that exist and there are still sane people in places of power. Never give up hope. As far as helping at a local level, I think the most important thing we can do is make being politically active cool again. E.g., engage in polite discussion, be open about being registered to vote, and talk about the election any time it crosses your mind. We're trained to shut up about politics in social situations. FUCK THAT AUTHORITARIAN NONSENSE.

As a dirty Canadian outsider, I can't help but feel like I'm watching my downstairs neighbor slowly turn their apartment into a meth lab that's about to explode. We all know that what happened on J6 was bad.. but, what do you think should happen if Trump seems to legitimately win the 2024 election? Should America just hand the keys back over to Trump and his band of fascist pricks? What does Resistance to a second Trump presidency look like? Especially if he tries to go full project 2025 (bonus question, any plans to cover project 2025 in a future episode?)

quantumchaos

So, this is kind of a doomer question, but given that there are, lets call them "distressingly high" odds that Trump wins in the general election, what are some of the things we can expect to see happen if that ends up being the case? Like, how likely is it that all of the stuff in Project 2025 happens? And is there anything beyond mutual aid and community building/resource pooling at the local level that we can do to help folks that are going to bear the brunt of political oppression?

Ok, I just rewatched the episode of Breaking News, and no, I don’t think it is referencing Jeremy Boreing. Am I the only one who thinks Boreing is Sam Reich’s evil doppleganger?

Zak Cates

I don’t know if this thread is still active, but I’ll ask anyway. Since the first Shapiroverse vid where I learned of the existence of Jeremy Boreing (thanks for that, btw) I couldn’t help but notice a resemblance between Boreing and Sam Reich. From what I know about Sam, there seems to be some kind of Bizarro universe thing going on here. In fact, now that I think about it, there was an episode of “Breaking News” where the premise is that Sam started a right wing organization… I’d never heard of Boreing at the time, so I just thought the joke was to make Sam uncomfortable by pretending he’s super right wing. But now I wonder if it was all a direct reference to Boreing? I’ll have to rewatch that episode. Anyway, I guess my question to you guys is: would it be a good idea to invite Sam Reich onto your podcast?

When does the only advertisements supercut come out? You still working on it? Never started? Already answered me before but I hadn't noticed because I pay far attention?

Any chance of a return of Worst Year Ever for this election year?

Matthew DenHerder

Pretending that there could be a single thing, what would, in your quick opinion, be the single thing that could start the world down the path of being less fucked up? Not necessarily something impossibly big. Like instead of 'capitalism stops existing' something like, 'a president says capitalism =bad'. okay, bad example, still impossible.

Jumping off from Love Is Blind, and flashing back to Seinfeld after that “joke” in Ladyballers: you rather date the blind or the deaf?

Burrito

Second.

How do you feel about the current state of cracked?

Would it be possible to get the complete SMN catalogue uploaded to Patreon? I listen to them while working and often go back to old episodes, especially when they become suddenly relevant again, and some of them are only on Spotify and some are only on YouTube. I refuse to pay YouTube any money and want to delete Spotify, so I’d LOVE to be able to listen to them all on Patreon.
