Trudging across the expansive beach proved to be quite a challenge for the pocket-sized CrissieBaby, who finally managed to wash up on shore after a long swim. Due to her shrunken stature and droopy diaper, it took almost an entire hour to reach where the wooded area just passed the beach. Exhausted from her hike, she collapsed with a wet plot beside a tall, multicolored tree to take a quick breather. As she did so, she gazed upon a sign that had been placed in front of the beach that read, “The Babbling Sea,” letting her know that the detour she took when she escaped via the underground river had gotten her completely turned around.

Throwing her arms into the air in a fuss was far from happy to find out she’d wandered so far off of her trail. “I was supposed to be headed to Babble Grove! Nothing about this place makes any sense,” she said as she leaned back against the tree and closed her eyes, wishing she’d never followed that stupid White Rabbit. As she did this, though, she was surprised by how soft and plushy the tree felt against her head.

“Oh, don’t mind me. By all means, take a load off,” said a very familiar voice, causing Crissie to leap out of her seat in surprise. Sure enough, it was that mangy cat, Chess, coming to pester her yet again. Only this time, he was much larger than her thanks to the shrinking potion,  "I must warn you, though, we cats are known to be very territorial when it comes to our tummy fluff.”

Rolling her eyes, Crissie said nothing, too frustrated as is to deal with any more of the cat’s mischievous antics. Instead, she chose to start walking in the opposite direction, deciding that marching through fatigue was better than listening to Chess’s condescending voice for another second.

“Hey, hey, hey now! Don’t be such a stranger,” said Chess, appearing in a puff of smoke directly in front of Crissie, only for her to walk past him without any acknowledgement. Stopping in place, knew exactly what he needed to say to get Crissie to converse with him, “What if I told you that the Red Queen’s castle isn’t far from here?”

Stopping in place and sighing, Crissie begrudgingly turned around to face the cat. “Which way?” she said starkly, placing a hand on her hip.

Floating over to Crissie, Chess flashed his trademark toothy grin, pleased to have regained Crissie’s attention. “See, I knew we were still pals,” he said, lowering his hovering body to the ground, “However, before we can see the Queen, we’ll need to make sure you are properly sized and dressed. And I think I know just the person who can help you with that. Climb aboard! I can take you the rest of the way,” He extended his paw to the ground, creating an on-ramp for Crissie to shimmy up.

Reaching Chess’s back, Crissie was struck by how soft and floofy the cat’s hair and body were. She instantly flopped down, smiling contently as she sunk into the cat’s impossibly soft fur. “Now this is traveling in style,” she said, thrilled to be off her aching feet.

“Rest up for now. We’ll be arriving at the Hatter’s place before you know it,” said Chess, turning around and heading off in the opposite direction Crissie had been walking in. Before long, Crissie had nodded off, the cat’s plushness lulling her to sleep within minutes. Not that Chess minded. He was more than content playing the errand boy for this task. In a way, he felt a tad guilty for leading Crissie toward inevitable doom. She may have bested the Caterpillar and escaped from the caucus racers but there was no doubt that the Hatter would be able to do her in.
