My theory is that he was once genius doctor and a rebel with a cause. I think something happened when he was working in the hospital that caused him to just leave which resulted in him being blacklisted. If I had to guess he probably lost patients due to internal politics and greedy execs. I say this because I dont think he became a great doctor just to work with mercenaries in a war zone. Once he left the hospital, he joined that mercenary group because he needed money, there were no politics, and he could just focus on saving lives. Judging from the first episode opening scene, he appears rogue as he tries to deliver blood. I think he witnessed the evil things the Black Wings were doing and decided to abandon the mercenary group while opting to protect the doctors and volunteers there. Those mercenary groups are backed by powerful people and if my theory is correct, our ML is no longer on their side and also a witness to their crimes. IDK. The show is getting better each episod. I'm watching this one as you guys watch it.

2025-02-07 01:20:32 +0000 UTCI wonder if part of the issue as well, it's that it is very different in war zones (role of doctors or medics in armed forces). Also, Korea has some strong perceptions about guns. So a doctor who carries a weapon as well and has to defend himself can be seen a highly questionable.

2025-02-07 00:12:13 +0000 UTCRegarding the controversy: Dr Baek supposedly worked for and was mostly saving the lives of mercenaries who are in Afghanistan as hired killers. He's saving them so they can carry on killing. I think Black Wings is supposed to be a fictionalised version of a private military contractor called Blackwater - which is also what the company K2 was working with in Kumar was likely based on. They have a long list of real-life crimes and controversies linked to them.
