This Week's Schedule 🙂

I wanted to at least let you guys know that I enjoyed Spirited Away! The music was so pretty and fun during the more adventurous moments. Although, I did find some things confusing, in case anyone wants to clarify...

1. What exactly was No Face's deal? lol...

2. Why was Haku a dragon and how did Chihiro know he was?

3. I assumed, by the end, that the tunnel Chihiro and her parents walk through is a portal or something. Once they finally leave, it doesn't look the same and is overgrown by nature, so do we know how long they were gone for or if the 'gate' actually looked the way that it did when they first arrived? Were they lured there somehow or where the parents really just curious about the place?

It's like taking Moonlight Chicken and Only Friends and mixed it with Korean production and script quality. They are all good but mixed together they are exceptional.

I am currently at Ep 6, It is so dam good and I love it, love the acting and the seriousness of the life theme that are shown and the rollercoaster of emotions. One of the best k bl I ever watched.

it's SOOOOO good. I'm slow watching it now. I intended to binge, but after watching the first episode discovered that I needed to sit with each episode a while before moving on to the next one. Man, Korean dramas when done right are just so beautifully shot and acted.

Faery

Yup, I've been waiting for that to drop actually

LOVE IN THE BIG CITY dropped. Sure, there is controversy about it, but I can't get past how amazingly realistic this portrayal is of modern college/lgbtq+ life that I've seen from South Korea. If you don't have a BL on the docket coming up, I put a big recommendation in for this one. All 8 episodes are out on Viki plus and each episode is around 45 to 55 mins long. It's urban life, with all the ups and downs that come from messy relationships and friendships along the way.

Ok...Miyazaki movies are filled with a lot of symbolism and after watching and reading about them for a long time I will tell you how I interpret the above... 1.No Face is a spirit that is wandering, many think it symbolized loneliness or abandonment. He also has none of his own traits so as you saw in the movie everything he eats he gains those traits. Most people are frightened by these types of spirits in Japanese lore so I believe he attached himself to Chichiro when they were nice to him. Miyazaki said there are tons of people like No Face in the real world, people who have no true personality of thier own and just copy who is around them and mirror those they see around them. 2. Haku is a river spirit that can take the form of a dragon. His River has been paved over so now he has nowhere to go. Toward the end of the movie Chichiro recalls a memory of falling into that when she was younger and seeing the river spirit dragon and remembers Haku. 3. There is no definitive answer as far as I know other than she was only gone 3 nights in the Spirit worlds time but the real worlds time was obviously way longer, some think it was months or even a year but it was never said straight out. Sorry this is long but hopefully helpful. I am really glad you enjoyed it.
