Guillermo del Toro - Tapestry Soundtrack by Primordial Creative
Added 2025-07-07 19:01:38 +0000 UTCI've been working on an animated autobiographical documentary on Guillermo del Toro, unauthorized of course, since 2021. Like my Phil Ochs film, it's a lot of collaged audio from interviews, put together in a narrative form laying out life and philosophy of the Great One, but this it gonna a much grander scale and with actual propulsive story and stakes.
To that end, and because I’ve become more aware of how sound drives a film (dialogue and music and sound design), I made the 1 hour score for the film which alternates between Erik Satie’s minimalist avant-garde neo-classical piano, Trent Reznor/ Atticus Ross/ Clint Mansell dark dissonant score and Aphex Twin drill n bass/ glitch IDM. Not exactly what Guillermo would use in his films, but it’s what I’m using in my film: “A 20-track cinematic score that weaves Erik Satie’s minimalist piano melancholy with Trent Reznor’s industrial chaos and Aphex Twin’s drill n bass breakbeats. The album captures Guillermo del Toro’s aesthetic through haunting carnival noir pieces for Nightmare Alley and Pinocchio alongside crushing electronic soundscapes for Blade 2, Hellboy, and Pacific Rim. Where beautiful monsters meet mechanical nightmares in a surreal musical tapestry.“
Making the score suddenly answered a LOT about where to go w this film, and even if it is 6 months MINIMUM away from release, I am nothing if not completely non-linear, thus please enjoy this score!
