The loudest ugliest song on my album and also the second track, "Happening" is a call to recognize and engage with current reality rather than living in denial or dissociation. The repeated emphasis on "this is happening" echoes existentialist themes about accepting the weight of present circumstances.
My experience is creative people either freak out about the immediate bad things about society- get paralyzed, or foaming at the mouth, or argumentative - or the opposite, they withdraw from the world into their own world of dreams. There's a Wim Wenders movie called "Until The End of the World" where technology allows people to view their own dreams and they become addicted to it. Werner Herzog says when he tried working deeply with David Lynch around 2006, Lynch was too far into his own TM and had retreated from reality.
Since the majority of the album involves fining ideals in the unreal dream world and dragging those things into reality, this song acknowledges the reality of totalitarianism in America is the reality that could be improved with these ideals.
