Divide By Hero - Part 2
Added 2023-01-15 17:09:27 +0000 UTCDivide By "Hero" - (Seventh Realm) A young hero-in-training, visiting the University of Tenshyr, manages to borrow the cornerstone of destiny (it's not like Lola has any use for it in her busy partying schedule, after all), hoping to use it to evolve into a full-fledged hero able to vanquish great evils. This already ill-advised plan is worsened when he decides to supercharge the cornerstone during a convenient planetary convergence. What can go wrong? Unfortunately but perhaps unsurprisingly, this does not go as planned: our young hero's destiny schisms, causing not a single but multiple destinies to manifest. And, despite his intentions, the emergent fates are less than heroic (and, as it were, less than male). In these fates, our hero did not triumph but rather succumbed to the evils he sought to resist. The emergent fates fall immediately to squabbling among themselves over who the 'real' fate is, averting for now what might have otherwise been a realm-wide catastrophe.

2023-01-15 22:14:15 +0000 UTCI got to say that this trilogy has such delightful surprises so far. The choice to evolve it from merely being "ha ha, the would be hero ends up in bad guy destinies" to instead be characters who have grown beyond the need for petty heroism in different wholesome ways is such a fun interpretation. We'll see how it shapes up for the third (given that if I'm remembering right they'll end up a member of the most consistently baddie culture of the realm), but definitely loving the trend.
