Good Luck :) I was posted to an US Air Base over there for a bit. I never learned Japanese, but it was pleasant to listen to, both spoken and via songs/music.

They're great! It's just that the basic vocabulary support and repetition from text based RPGs cannot be overstated.

I thought video game art books would be fun, because I love them and I can get them for so many of my favorite games.

Consider Dragon Quest or some kids anime as supporting resources. Japanese is fun, but a lot of work

i would love to see interviews on your channel! i always wanted to learn Japanese so i could watch JAVs and hentai without translations because they're usually not great.

Thanks! That's why I went with the physical workbooks, so that I could also practice writing.

Debatably, don’t skip learning the writing system. Meaning, practice writing as well as reading, deliberate neat handwriting with correct stroke orders, so as writing becomes natural and drifts toward being sloppier, it drifts in predictable ways that native speakers can still read intuitively.
The first time you catch yourself thinking words and sounds and finding the characters are just flowing onto the paper on autopilot, you’ll freak out. In a good way.
If you don’t have a lot of other IRL resources, find a local Asian market and see if the owners can put you in touch with locals from Japan.
(I did five semesters 2002-2004, since forgotten everything, started again with Duolingo, and it’s nice but I feel like you need feedback from a native speaker and you need live conversation practice too.)

Nice! It's what you've been wanting for a long time. Also, totally not jealous...
