A Quick Update on Patreon's Upcoming Sales Tax

Due to new laws passing in several countries and US states Patreon will be required to start charging a sales tax on some pledges starting July 1st. Apparently, this will affect less than half of all users, and will be a small amount between 4-11%.
Whether you'll be affected depends on your location and local laws. For example, I'm an Australian and will be charged 10% in GST, my local sales tax. You can look up what you'll be charged (if anything) on this page:
Where is Patreon collecting tax, and what are the tax rates?
Patreon will be notifying you themselves of this in the coming days, but I just wanted to notify you a little head of schedule.
You do not need to take any action unless you wish to adjust your pledge; when you're charged on July 1st you will simply see the sales tax listed on your receipt.

2020-05-30 10:04:22 +0000 UTCAh. This again. Neither sales tax nor GST is new. I'm interested to hear how Patreon are going to handle it this time. I was going to ask a question about how foreign sales tax affects your BAS accounting but that's a bit much for a Saturday morning 😁
