The Grass & Road Assets
Added 2019-01-18 08:13:35 +0000 UTC
Hello patrons! I have another pack for you that falls into the category of boring to look at but highly functional. This is the Grass & Roads pack, which includes several seamless ground textures and a bunch of assets to lay roads with. I've also included PDFs for the base textures, for those of you who want a grassy base for the game board.
The easiest way to use these to create a custom map is to open up your image editor and lay down three layers of grass, dirt, and paving. Next, use layer masks or selection deletes to define your simple layout of roads and dirt, like so:

After that, grab the rest of the assets and use them to border your base layer. Sprinkle in cobble and dirt patches to taste, and you have a solid map:

My last tip is to add some drop shadows to your buildings and throw some shadow and light gradients down over the ground layer. This will help everything pop. After these steps you'll have something like our banner image at the top of this post!
As always, I can't wait to see your creations in the Community section. Enjoy!
Thanks to you, these are released under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license.
I love these tokens. I just used them to make a crossroads map for my next game. Thank you!

Cool. I'll have to get better with Gimp to make maps then!

These ones, not so much. The way that the textures need to be manipulated and the roads aligned is not very Roll20 friendly. I recommend Using Gimp to export whatever base map you need to make (your Roll20 will run faster that way, too!)

I'm looking forward to seeing what you make of it. ;)

Are these assets meant to be dropped into Roll20? I can't seem to get them to line up properly.

This is exactly what I needed thank you so much!!!

These are so nice! God I love the functional assets so much, like sure pretty shiny things are nice but if you don't have the core set up it won't look that good. Thank you so much!

Yep, knocked it out of the ballpark. Not sexy, but super valuable!

Damn your timing is awesome! I am currently working on a big battlemap for a town using mostly your assets and my main issue was not having proper dirt roads! Awesome work dude!

Are you in my head, Patrick? I want to make a yard clutter pack to accompany the Papercraft Cottage some time next month. :)

Water and rivers are the next most requested, so I think that will be next. Thanks!

Boring to look at but highly functional are some of the best. Most encounters need the ground underneath them.
Now we have cave, dungeon, road, roadside, castle, mansion. What next? Things to populate a farmyard/garden could be handy personally. Fences, vegetable patches, stuff like that maybe?

Very cool man! I love these kind of assets, as "boring" as they may be! Looking forward to some dungeon/cave/urban variations ;)
