Old-School Onsen in Bangkok – My Last Dip Before Leaving!

And that’s it—I’ve officially tried several types of onsen here in Bangkok, Thailand! The last one was more of an old-school style, called Carnation Sauna.

Since it was my final day in Bangkok, I wanted to relax a bit before my flight. From Avalan Hotel, it only took about 15 minutes to get here by GrabBike. And wow… Bangkok was so hot that even the driver’s phone was wearing a little “hat”! 😂

When I arrived, this is what the outside looked like. I went straight inside, and there’s a locker room waiting for you right after you enter.

Once you step into the locker room, there’s a staff member in an orange uniform ready to take your payment and hand you the key. The entrance fee is (7.80 USD). After that, you can grab a pair of shorts, a towel, and flip-flops. Oh, and here—you don’t go nude, hehe! 😄
I came here with a friend I met earlier at Yunomori Onsen, and we decided to meet directly at this place.

The atmosphere looks something like this—there are two pools: one large and one small. The big pool has cold water at around 14°C, while the hot one is about 39–41°C.

When you walk in, you’ll see plenty of chairs and tables—just pick any spot you like and sit down.

Once you sit down, a few staff members will come over and set a jug of drinks, a glass, and some watermelon on your table. The building here is covered with a canopy roof and has no AC, so you can definitely feel the heat. That’s why the cold drink they give you is perfect!

Wanna know what it is? It’s actually plain water—but with just a hint of tea. And it’s sooo good! Super refreshing! I drank three glasses before even getting into the pool.

If you feel like eating, you can also order something from this lovely lady—it’s kind of like a small canteen, though I’m not sure what’s on the full menu. I just noticed some guests ordering things like noodles, vegetables, and other dishes.
Most of the visitors here are local uncles. There’s one European guy, a few Chinese visitors, and of course… me! 😆

Aside from the pools, there’s also a sauna and a steam room. I couldn’t take photos inside the sauna because it was packed with people—and heaters! There were three heaters inside, so it was super hot, probably hitting around 100°C. Even sitting on the lower bench was hot, but when I stood up to leave—wow, the heat was intense! 🔥

But here’s the fun part—you can watch TV in the sauna! There’s a screen facing the sauna window, so it’s just like in Japan: relaxing in the sauna while watching TV.

Next to the sauna, there’s a steam room—I even managed to take a photo. But… it was so steamy you couldn’t even see the person right in front of you! And it was hot too—probably around 75–80°C!!

Honestly, I think both rooms are way too hot to enjoy properly. Woy, it’s intense! 😅
After trying both, I decided to rest in one of the nap areas. I stayed there for about 10 minutes—since it was still quite warm, I couldn’t really fall asleep. So I just lounged around instead.

After that, I wandered around randomly and found a gym. Of course, we had to try it out for a bit! It’s totally an old-school “Majapahit-style” gym—so much fun!

After a short gym session, we mostly just chatted and relaxed. Going back to the sauna? Nope—way too hot! 😂

Not long after, my friend said goodbye and headed home, while I stayed here a bit longer—my flight wasn’t until around 6 PM, so I still had time to relax. I kept trying (and trying… and trying!) to brave those two insanely hot rooms again. 🔥😅

I went in and out of the steam room about 3–4 times since it was empty—but honestly, I could only last 2–4 minutes each time. It was just so hot, hot, hot! 🔥 After that, I’d go back to sitting and relaxing in the chair. And yep… that’s pretty much how it went, haha!
After feeling a bit bored, I decided to wrap it up and take a shower. But first, let’s take a little tour to see what the toilets and shower rooms look like.

No need to worry—they’ve got shampoo and soap here, so you can just hop in and shower! Though honestly, I couldn’t really tell the difference between the “inside” and “outside” sections… they looked pretty much the same, haha!

But oh well—time to pack up!!
I actually spent quite a while here—from 10:30 AM until 3:00 PM. And yes, I enjoyed it! Now, let’s head straight to the locker room to freshen up. No worries—they’ve got plenty of skincare products too, like lotion, baby powder, and more.

And then… something happened! In the middle of all the chaos, I ended up leaving my headphones here—they were hanging around my neck and I totally forgot about them! 😅

But I was already on my way back to Avalan Hotel to grab my luggage, then straight onto the MRT + bus to the airport. The MRT fare was around (1.38 USD).

While on the MRT, I rummaged through my bag and… yep, no headphones. I was digging through so frantically that I ended up injuring my finger, and it started bleeding right there on the train. Eventually, a kind woman noticed and handed me a band-aid—just like a scene straight out of a drama! Haha!
Then I continued by bus to the airport. It was so full that I ended up standing right at the front next to the driver. The fare was around (0.78 USD) to the airport.
Once I arrived at the airport, I kept asking myself, “Where are my headphones?!” And yep—confirmed, I really left them behind. Without even contacting the onsen to check, I went ahead and booked a Grab Express to pick them up.

It cost me around(7.50 USD)—traffic was bad, but hey, better that than losing my headphones! Haha!

And guess what—turns out I was right!!! My headphones were indeed there. What a relief!

And that’s it for my little pre-departure drama!

Fun, right? 😄 Okay, even though we’ve reached the end of the story, I still want to share a few shopping spots and other important tips.

Thank you!!
