For those of you enjoying this show, I highly recommend Dickinson (about poet Emily Dickinson) on Apple TV+. It's BRILLIANTLY done

So much same!! To the point where it took me a while to understand that people find me weird (I still kinda don't know why, tbh?). I have been described as "she's from Mars" alarmingly often, and once at a reunion someone approached me with "hey! you were that weird kid who used to read under the stairs at recess!" and I was baffled both times, and they haven't been the only times!
Ah, Anne Shirley, leading the representation of AuDHD girls since 1908!

And to add- after Mrs Andrew’s calls Anne a trollop, this infuriates me to know end because it still happens today. It will never not piss me off to hear adults blaming children when they display sexually inappropriate behavior rather than being deeply concerned because where tf did they learn that and why?!? There are still grown people who call little girls “hot in the pants” behind their clothing or makeup which doesn’t even have anything to do with behavior, just perception. I have an ex-brother in law that told my niece she looked like a street walker when she was 12 because she had on eyeliner. I came fully unglued on him. She was so happy and felt so cute only moments before and I just watched her deflate. She didn’t even really know what it meant, she just knew it was bad. It broke me in two and took me back to the first time a grown person sexualized my body/clothing/intentions. I was just as clueless as my niece to what they were saying to me, I only knew I felt very dirty and ashamed afterward. I just wish logic would prevail in this situation and adults would stop putting their own weird thoughts onto children who likely have no idea what they’re inferring and if they do know then you need to be even more concerned and protective of them.
Seeing Marilla and Matthew stand up for Anne in this moment was healing for a lot of us little weirdos who always knew a little too much, but never quite enough to know how to read the room. I put my lil undiagnosed autistic foot in my mouth more times than I can count and the few times I was given grace and was told why what I said was inappropriate or wrong or hurtful did worlds more for my growth than any shaming ever did.

I think Anne was so used to such terrible, abusive behavior, that describing it like a story felt very unassuming. She had no idea that they had never seen or heard such things, but regardless of whether the other girls truly understand what she was saying or not, they definitely knew the talk of drinking and hitting and touching between men and women was completely scandalous and not to be discussed even when grown. They likely had never even seen many people drinking as it was during Prince Edward Island’s prohibition period(I think)

Anne reminds me so much of myself, especially in this episode. Growing up as an undiagnosed neurodivergent girl (ADHD and autism), I remember thinking the same things she did: "I'm not going to say anything weird or do anything wrong" - I relate to that immensely. The same with her trauma. I think this show has been healing for a lot of people who didn't fit in growing up, myself included, and I'm so glad you like it and saw some of your own experiences reflected in Anne!
Also, your points about intersectionality are spot on! This is my favourite adaptation for that reason, they do a good job of exploring intersectionality throughout the show (especially in later seasons). I can't wait for your reactions!

That's a good point. She's a good companion for Marilla

About Rachel Lynde and Marilla being friends through gossip, I think it's more than Marilla just "tolerating her ass" (though that made me lol! 😅). Marilla isn't very social by nature, and Rachel brings her all the news from the town! Rachel Lynde is certainly nosy, but she is part of the glue of the community: she knows who's sick and needs help, who's having financial burdens, who needs what and who has what to spare... She is certainly judgemental, which is not good, but she's not actually mean, I don't think.

Yes about Marilla!!! You're so right. She's stern, but she is open to learning, and that's a lifelong virtue that not many people cultivate for that long!
Ah, Gilbert. I... don't really like *this* Gilbert, I find him too Chalamet-esque, too modern. To me, Jonathan Crombie, the Gilbert from the 80s miniseries, will always be the true one.
I think the blackboard scene is iconic because she stands for herself against the micro aggressions she's supposed to just let go of because she's a girl, and girls are supposed to be proper and let boys be boys.
I mean, yes, Gilbert is a kid, but he needs to learn!
Girls get told so often, even today, that boys insult them "just to get your attention, because he must like you", or that they pull your hair because "oooh, that means he must be into you", and Anne doesn't stand for that! Feminist icon 😅

Poor Anne! I love how quickly Matthew and then Marilla realise that Anne’s inappropriate knowledge isn’t her fault. And as soon as they do they rally around her, support her and defend her.
And a shout out to the soundtrack. The violin when Anne runs from the school gives me chills. Beautiful!

Marilla reminds me so much of my mom. There are many people who claim to be "progressive", because they've put certain tags on themselves, often without even actually meaning it, but what's actually progressive is being open to growth and listening to others experiences. In that regard Marilla is the most progressive woman in this fuckass town, because she actually listens!!!!! She immediately understood Matthew's point of view and went to spit some mf facts!!! I adore her.
Yeah, Gilbert comes off as a douche in this episode 😭 Unfortunately, as I heard, the scene where Anne hits him with the board is "iconic" to the buildup of the characters according to the book, but it's just mean and I've always hated it. Gilbert for sure feels entitled and inattentive to the cues Anne gives him, but oh well, he's also a kid, so I've always given him a benefit of the doubt. Seeing as Anne's presence changed even grownups around her - it for sure will affect kids around her growing up with her. No spoilers tho!!!
The whole scene of Matthew reminding us that she's a traumatised kid always gives me chills. He's been on her side from the moment they met at the station and it always made me emotional. He took his role as a dad and never once left it.
Oh well ig I'll go for a two-weeks-long nap until the next Anne with an e reaction is out 🤭🤭🤭 Thank you so much for the hard work, much love 💚

Seems like some folks on Reddit are reporting a work around to get videos up on Patreon? But it definitely appears to be a widespread issue on the platform.
