I like that we're seeing more backstory from Lestat (Magnus and his origin story). It really does make him more sympathetic, i just wonder why he didnt feel like he would/could/should share it earlier, like surely he noticed the lack of understanding? Maybe it was too painful for him to relive and he wanted to shield the others I also like how Claudia is slower to forgive Lestat than louis is. Louis is Lestat's focus with all his acts of love, and Louis has seen how good it CAN be with Lestat. Claudia has seen just a bit of it but only because of their shared flair when killing. I feel like she feels protective of Louis and doesn't give Lestat the benefit of the doubt. At 36mins u mention about how fun it is that this show made a family dynamic and now a dynamic of mending a broken family, and i agree its SO fun. I also like how Claudia does still have the same role of defiance that she had before, but it is shown a different way now. Man, Louis and Claudia saying goodbye and hugging got me tearing up to be honest. SO heartbreaking you KNOW its not workin but louis also cant let go of the notion that lestat is forreal different now, even though he's aware lestat didnt actually kill antoinette... HUH LESTAT WHT THE FUCk yeah no hes fucked up fucked up... its like. he KEEPS doing this shit it keeps being with like an understandable intention but you cant just kill off this train guy to get claudia to come back because louis would be sad??? ? thats fucked. Can't agree with you more so far on the takes tbh about calling a thing a thing. (your talk at around 1hr mark) YES the best apology is changed behavior!!!!!!! ok... i dont think i will do this for every episode this ep took me 2 hours to watch this wayhahahahahah

Ditje kamseen

oh! interesting when Lestat proclaims he never had anything to do with Paul's death. I actually did have in mind that maybe he made paul walk to the edge. It would be kind of weird since Paul just said i love you to Louis which gives reason for it to have been all Paul, but we also did learn that Lestat can control people and make them walk in directions so i DID think it was maybe lestat. I do think i believe him when he said it wasnt him though... so ye

Ditje kamseen

I legit stopped in the middle of your reaction to look up Ann Rice. I've heard of her before but never read any of her books, so I was curious to know more about her and her life. All I'll say is Thank you!!! What I discovered about her resonated with me so deeply, and I've added a few of her books to my 'to read' list. You know... I wouldn't have given this show a real chance because vampire stories aren't my jam in this season of my life, but this is so much more. I decided to watch with you instead of watching first and then watching your reactions after, and I'm so happy I chose to do it this way. I can feel free to comment on the journey because it's my first time too, and I'm not at risk of ruining anything for you. With that said! I really want to highlight how epic it was that Claudia was able to have a serious conversation with Louis while laying a calm smackdown on Lestat! She has really matured a lot since we first encountered her, and I think she is really underrated in what she's overcome to become the growing force to be reckoned with we see by the end of this episode! I really wonder how she and Louis came to be separated.. and also wonder if her absence contributes at all to his self proclaimed 'suicide' mission that is the interviews and subsequent publishing. I'm on the edge of my seat right with you in anticipation of how they might pull this off!

Michaela B

I've just started watching your reactions for this show and I know I'm late but THANK YOU for sticking to your gut! I feel like I was being gaslit by lestat fans while I watched this show. He's actually horrible? And I've seen both seasons and for some reason people seem to forget how HORRIBLE he was in season 1. They give him so much grace and I get he's the main character in the books but hes also...the villain in the first book? This episode and the previous episode was super triggering on grounds of abuse and DV. A great show but some fans feel a bit dismissive about this topic sometimes.

Akaash Sidhu

Your comment about how you’re aware that the way you react to the abuse in the show can affect real life victims watching your videos is such an important distinction to make. I really respect that. I was actually first introduced to this show by a friend who was in an abusive marriage. She really wants to watch but I have kindly asked her to wait and heal first before delving in. All this to say that I appreciate when people show awareness and empathy when interacting with media depicting abuse, even if it’s about monsters. The story is trying to tell us something and it would be odd if we dismissed it all.

Tini

“He is so good lookin’” The way you paused and said that lolllll. You knew exactly what Lestat was up to, coming by dressed like that!

Tini

I am current now!

Christina H

His hands down the best actor in this whole thing. Yes everything you said Take your time in catching up. I dread the day that I finish season 2

Franklin

Thank you my friend. I'm glad we can go through these difficult characters and emotions together. The topics are just so heavy and I think talking through them as we go is always a plus. Claudia has to be protected at all cost. More reactions on the way. Thank you so much for joining. Wishing you well

Franklin

Gracias princess

Franklin

Just reading your comments brought back those feelings again. Our poor girl Claudia. I agrees definitely worse than him dropping Louise. The fight with Louise was impulsive and out of Rage. But this, this was just diabolical. It's almost like he freaking enjoyed it

Franklin

I 1,000% agree with you and your thoughts on the train scene versus the fight scene in episode 5. And is that added element that Claudia is a child. Yes she's older but to us, she's still appears as a kid and one of the biggest victims in the show so far

Franklin

Thanks for the no spoiler warning lol Appreciate you for enjoying the commentary and for joining the conversation in the comments. Hell yeah I will never change my reaction style because a few people don't have the patience or the brain cells to skip that portion. My head would literally explode if I didn't talk through these complex characters and scenes. At that point there's no point to doing the reaction. Everything you said about that train scene. Yes yes. When reading about your alternate universe in which Claudia enjoyed the train ride while reading her books brought a big smile to my face My Palms were indeed sweating😭🤣 could you imagine if he actually could this whole time, well he did through Antoinette. So my fears were kind of right And to answer your question. I typically wait a couple of days because I'm also watching other shows and movies. So I have to schedule it. But trust me through those days I am anxiously anticipating watching it again. It feels like torture sometimes. Thanks for watching

Franklin

The scene where Claudia and Louis are questioning Lestat… Sam Reid’s acting is so good, you forget he’s acting. I can’t imagine anyone else in that role. All three of them are awesome… but there is something about how Lestat is played. I know he’s essentially “bad” but .. you can’t help but love him. Like he’s a real vampire and you under his spell. Phenomenal acting! I want to see more he’s done. I also love that I haven’t seen these yet, though I’m an episode behind. I’m catching up! 😬

Christina H

Hi Frank (and squid!), I found your channel only recently but thank your for your insightful wonderful reactions. You are an incredibly thoughtful, empathetic and intelligent person and as a painter I am also inspired by your art. I was struggling to watch the show alone because it is so heavy and upsetting at times but also so beautifully made and a masterpiece so watching an episode and then watching your reaction has felt comforting. I really found the last episode and this episode so difficult as my heart goes out to Claudia and all she went through which was so incredibly hard to see happen. I definitely struggle to like Lestat as his actions especially on the train and treatment if Louis in the last episode where unforgivable. This show is incredible though, the complexity, all of the themes it covers , how well written with emotion it and I can’t wait to see your reactions. Sending well wishes and happy days your way :)

Hugo

Loved this reaction. I can't wait for the next episode.

Princess Zuma

Yes you need to! We’d all love to see your reactions to that kind of stuff !

Myranda

Please forgive my run on sentences and misspelling. I use voice activation typing as I am a quadrapaligic after a deadly accident caused by a drunk driver. There is no spell check here and my voice is soft so it is not picked up well. I was born with a photographic memory and even after the accident I retrained my brain to function properly. Took almost a decade

Laura Thate

Thanks for elaborating that part about the emotions. How Anna rice explained it. It made so much sense that do feel things extremely. That was an interesting addition to add the train scene to the TV show. At this point I trust these writers so much that if there’s some redemption/full understanding for him in the future, they’re gonna make it all make sense in totality.

Franklin

Never change. I always absolutely LOVE and look forward to what you have to say🙌🏾 Reading this was so heartbreaking, and so so enlightening. I love how you and your mind have persevered through the years and all you have learned and freely passed along.

Franklin

I feel you Abby. I’ll definitely keep that in mind going forward. Thanks for watching.

Franklin

Ouuuu good point, he always had quite an advantage . Not today bad boy Hehe😂

Franklin

I’m glad you’re enjoying the reactions and also contributing as well. Much appreciated. I have so much to say about Claudia. But I’ll save it for the intro of season 2 when I post it. I think it’ll be easier for me to get all my thoughts out on camera :) And about Rashid, I just assumed since he was around Louis he was may be a vampire? I just assumed probably no human being in their right mind would be hanging out with a vampire like that ya know

Franklin

Ahh I feel you. Thanks. We will definitely reconvene in the future when I’m caught up🙏🏾🤍

Franklin

Oh yeah, I am definitely watching and probably recording some of his interviews. Sounds like awesome content for myself and the fan base. And definitely I think Anna Rice would’ve been pleased

Franklin

And I did go back and listen to the song. Beautiful.

Franklin

I’m glad. You will see a lot of him :) he just can’t help it

Franklin

You’re living a good life Mark. you know how to have a good time

Franklin

For real. It’s like, I get him wanting to make a point. But bring up the darkest moment of her life to make that point, cmon

Franklin

Appreciate it Julia😄

Franklin

Big facts. This episode was so so good. It had everything. I hear you. Very passionate fanbase

Franklin

Fakkkkk they got me again😭😂

Franklin

What a line indeed. And I think that him using the dog to lick off the blood of his hand before sending it into the cage. Kind of symbolizes how he essentially using Claudia as well. To make sure Louis is happy. Or at least that’s how I read the addition of the dog and the cage

Franklin

I've watched this season so many times and the scene with Claudia on the train is still so hard to watch. Even worse than Lestat dropping Louis even though that's maybe objectively the worse act of violence. But just the contrast of Claudia finally getting out and feeling joy and relief and that getting snatched back within minutes. It's just so awful.

rese

i love lestat’s character but rewatching season 1 reminds me of why i hated him during it too. for me the hardest scene to watch is the train scene with lestat and claudia. don’t get me wrong, the fight in episode 5 was awful and still really hard to watch but i guess it’s easier for me to digest because the violence, while horrible, is, idk, raw? like impulsive and emotional so it’s easier to emphatize with it in a way even if i still hate it. but in this scene the violence is just cold and calculated and cruel and at least for me personally, that’s harder to watch and emphasize with at all. like i do understand the reasons, but i think it’s the scene in which i hate lestat the most. that’s also because i absolutely love claudia and i hated seeinig her cry like that, it was heartbreaking.

kai

(Starting by saying zero spoilers or even the vaguest of hints here.) I am obsessed with your commentary. Not just this one episode - legit all of them. Your analyses and insights are absolute 🔥 I hear you on receiving feedback that some people dislike reactors who talk a lot - but I'm selfishly glad that you acknowledge it without actually changing to accommodate their preferences. 😅 Like you said, let those people just fast-forward. 😂 Especially for a show like this where it generates SO MUCH to think about. I've watched some reactors that just sit there (I don't blame them - 100% I'd do the same, especially from the shock of some scenes. It's a lot to take in!), but I find it nowhere near as interesting to watch. You have such a great way of verbalizing your feelings and thoughts on the characters. I also love that you pause throughout to process and get more in-depth. I love your comments about how long they have to feel things for, and how despite being these super powerful beings, they're still held back by societal limitations. Claudia for sure deserved the best seats on the train - I loved seeing how happy she was at the start of that scene. 💔 I like to imagine an alternate timeline for that scene where Lestat never found her, and she sat first class in a window seat, watching the world fly by while reading her books and planning her adventure. (At least until the sun rose and she had to go hide in a windowless car. 😆) (And you are 100% right about Lestat too. Yes, it's all fiction - fortunately 😆 - but fiction doesn't excuse shit behaviors. And that train scene was particularly horrific, it deserves to be judged harshly. Exactly like you said - he doesn’t see her as her own person deserving of her own life. It's disgusting.) Also, literally laughed out loud when you were like "what if Lestat's been lying to them both?? My palms are sweating." 🤣 It's impossible not to love a show with such phenomenal writing and acting that it causes that kind of a very real response. Random question out of curiosity: do you actually wait several days between watching the episodes? (Hoping not, if for nothing else than so the fans can't keep spoiling things for you with their comments.) But I've wondered about reactors who join after all episodes are already available. Major props to you if you do - I would not have the self-control to *not* immediately finish the entire series in one sitting if I knew it was all already out there. Anyway, great episode again - thank you for sharing!

Brittany W

You brought up a good point I didn’t think of it that way, I was thinking it from the perspective of knowing his back story, that’s why I can’t come up with a good way to express why I think he got mad without hinting at stuff that will come up later. I do think you’re right tho as for my thoughts I guess it would fall into the “two things can be true at once”

RÆY

I absolutely love watching Sam's interviews about Lestat and the show. There's a couple of moments in particular where he gets choked up talking about what the character means to him - one at the comic con for the first season. It's so amazing to have someone who loves the books and the character so much portraying him. Wish Anne Rice had got to see his interpretation. I think she'd be very impressed.

Kim D

On your comments on the emotions and how they feel things over time; in the books, Anne Rice also says how vampires experience emotions on a whole other level. Everything is heightened and intensified for them when they become vampires. And Lestat is already a very emotional, volatile character so his outbursts and reactions are always very over the top. As a Lestat fan, I can say that even though I love the character, I of course understand how selfish and cruel he can be. They made a good few changes in the show compared to the books - especially that whole thing with Claudia on the train. That doesn't happen in the books. And I feel like in some ways they've made the character seem even worse, but I trust the writers and creators of the show with what they're doing. And I trust Sam Reid to do him justice as he's an amazing actor, and so dedicated to the role. Can't wait to see the finale reaction and then on to season 2 for more madness!

Kim D

It also just occurred to me that he could beat all those opponents he brags about - sure - but HE CAN READ MINDS. He can't read hers and he underestimates her in every way. I truly is prob the first time he's lost! 😂🤣

Melissa

you're 1,000% right. She's very much like him in that manner

Franklin

yurrrrrr. homie should be studied

Franklin

Thank you thank you. I just think it's more fun when I can dig deep and find reasons why these characters tick. Especially the ones that are some of the worst. Those are the ones that I want to understand the most so I can stay away lol and thanks for the reminder that it's okay for the reactions to be long. I've just been conditioned by hundreds and hundreds of people at this point to just "watch".. But I should focus more on the thousands and thousands of people who have told me they love hearing my thoughts. Those are the people I'm here for I noticed the bruises on lestats face during his monologue and I remembered Louis punching him. So i just chuck it up to them loving aggressive lovemaking. I knew that that fight was going to turn into making out real quick. They can't resist each other. They're all kinds of f***** up. I like that you said that they match each other's freak🤣 The only reason I thought lestat was mad when he lost the game is cuz he's such a narcissist and is so used to being controlling and above them, especially at that point in the story. So Claudia luring him into the loss. I think that broke his brain a little bit. The frustration and all that. I once had a very abusive roommate, he was the first person who really taught me that your peers can also be aggressively abusive to you. But towards the end of us living together, I finally got a lot of confidence and just a lot of power to stand up to him. When I tell you his brain melted, it's crazy. He had gotten conditioned to be so dominant that me finally standing up for myself, challenging him, and actually "winning" was too much for him to handle. I think that broke his brain. He acted out in ways that was so unlike him. And all I could do was laugh. Like how did I let this idiot walk over me for so long? But yeah that's why I feel that way in that scene. When you can find the words for why you think he got mad during that game I would love to hear it for real. I love hearing people's takes

Franklin

I hope this chicken soup keeps your soul full for the rest of the work week💜 this was the longest intro I've ever done and more of that will come. You guys are on Patreon so you get the full full experience. The funny part is I had already gotten Daniel Malloy's name down, but just for the simple fact that I spoke about me messing up the names for so long in the intro, I started messing it up in the episode as well. If you notice towards the middle to end of the episode I was just like f*** it and started calling him Malloy🤣 I'm going forward he's just Malloy to me😁 I know that feeling. I used to watch a lot of reaction channels back in the day and that same feeling of reliving everything you felt again. There's nothing like it. That's why people who don't watch reaction channels don't really understand the appeal. But it only takes them one or two reaction videos to understand why we love reactions so much. And I'm glad you've watched it so many times and still catch something new. I rewatch all my favorite TV shows and movies at least five times. At least. And as for the comments, keep em coming. I use an AI extension on my browser to read comments out loud to me, so it just feels like hearing you talk. So yes when we're done with season 2 I'm ready for the essays lol All kinds of f***** up is right. Thank you

Franklin

"is why I pay my money to hear you" made me laugh out loud. Fuck yes! 🤣🔥 I GOT YOU! I was just so fired up because I had given leStat the benefit of the doubt. Through watching the show and engaging in a lot of conversations both on and off Patreon, So I got so fired up because I was actually disappointed in him. Because it's like I created more space for you in my heart to give you a chance to prove that you have changed. AND BOOM. He doubled down and did what he did to Claudia. And yes I'm still fired up even right now lol. I hope I get a lot more nuance and context in future seasons. But as for right now. nah

Franklin

Thanks for sharing all that. It feels so good learning about Sam's dedication to the character and how invested he is in portraying him. I cannot wait to finish watching season 2 so I can binge-watch all their interviews and behind-the-scenes content.

Franklin

I agree and I appreciate that sentiment. It's always a good reminder

Franklin

Literally everything you said... BARZZZ!! Thanks for taking the time to write to this long-ass comment. I enjoyed going through it and picking your brain about the characters and the world

Franklin

that part! They're both eating this role and cleaning the damn plate!!! Yep! I guess squid was marking his territory on me

Franklin

You screaming at your screen is wild hahahaha! I had it this episode. After posting episode 1 and 2 on YouTube, the way people were telling me to give Lestat a chance regardless was ridiculous. And to be fair I did and still had an open mind. But now that I've finished all of season 1, I'm kind of disappointed because the way they were talking I thought he had this ultimate Redemption. But no this man doubled down on the BS. That scene with him threatening Claudia. I was fuming! But Lowkey I still have my mind open a little bit for season 2

Franklin

Dear Franklin, I am so very proud of you for being able to offer Lestat compassion and hold out hope but watching you transition to the reality list that has always been and will always be a selfish, manipulative, narcissistic abuser, and stand in that moment, and feel the truth of what he is and will forever be what’s the solidified by his cruelty towards Claudia. I’m not giving any spoilers away. I’m just explaining something that 80 years of being a woman, mother, grandmother, great grandma, sister, friend and neighbor to other women in times long past I have seen this man in human form more times than those of your generation. They know their power over there “Mark“ they play mind games and are cruel to manipulate others to satisfy their own needs. In my generation women were property much like a car. In the south, there was a saying “the rule of thumb“ which meant, a man could beat his wife with anything would metal horse whip as long as it was no thicker than his thumb. Women endured and it didn’t matter what race we were men you fed them you gave them babies and you made sure dinner was never late. Their clothes were always clean, and you had no thought in your head that was worthy of speaking to them about. It’s a very cruel harsh reality that even in this day and age women and men alike suffer from. I think it’s harder now than it was then because generations before never spoke on it to their children or their grandchildren because of the shame it held because there weren’t women’s shelters if you ran home to your family, your husband had a license and his hands to take you straight out of that home and you pay hell every moment in your travels to your “place“ now this generation is so easily gaslit. They don’t see the red flags because the game still continues and sociopath narcissist have such a gray and elegance about them that they use as a weapon. And when Danny, the writer pointed out to Lewis mockingly saying but he’s always sorry.“ And you go back to him. I’m so proud that you can look back through times and errors that you never live through in a nation that you did not live in and still be able to come to the conclusion that it is what it is and set your boundary strong to say “don’t anybody come at me to gaslight me.” Well, still offering your audience the right to feel what they feel about their characters they are experiencing. There is an old saying that says life is wasted on the youth. It’s only when you become old and have walk-through decades learning as you go through time that you can recognize by instinct energy feeling who and what people are around you are about. It was a skill I picked up, having to live through the decades from just after world war two into my youth of the 60s parenting through the late 70s to the late 80s watching people as I traveled and lived in 44 of the 50 states and three countries you learn to become invisible by blending in. I kept my eyes and ears open at all times and my mouth closed. Old habit of my era were to be seen not heard. It was a great advantage because you could listen to the adults the men on the porch smoking their pipes the ladies doing the laundry or gardening together, being their little worker, I’m grateful I believe as long as I have I am so grateful for all I’ve seen and yes, all the hardships that came to make all the joys that much sweeter and living through times where things were so difficult that you change your spirit to daily pick out one just one little piece of beauty to place within your heart to keep it sustained until the tides of time changed the fortunes of the world that you could not control but must live within. I do so admire you. I look forward to each new series to watch her growth. My body is old, my spirit is timeless and yet some days I’m still a 15-year-old girl, a 25-year-old young woman 50-year-old new grandmother and I get to see life through your eyes and your emotions and it has been a blessing and I want to thank you. Ted Lasso, and House of dragons I will wait patiently to hear your thoughts as you explore these wonderful shows with me together. Many blessings as always to you and to those who you love and love and you in return

Laura Thate

thank you for your wonderful insight as always!! and never feel bad for feeling how you feel about the story and characters. i don't think anyone would argue with you that what lestat did here to claudia is one of the worst things he could've done to her, so you're right to feel disgusted. i think it's why they included the scene earlier of lestat recounting his own history with abuse, as we know from real life that cycles of abuse tend to repeat themselves, and that hurt people hurt people. all i will say, although i know you've been doing this anyways, is to keep an open mind as the story goes forward and new information is revealed. these characters are complex and all kinds of fucked up, so it can be difficult to consider everything in full at times, especially in moments like these. so that shouldn't stop you from feeling disgusted with them in the moment, but i hope it also won't make you resistant to new information and perspectives as the story goes forward, as things are often not black and white in this story. i suppose the best way to say it, as louis said in episode one, is to "let the tale seduce you", and to keep an open mind (which i know you're doing already don't worry haha)

Abby

I think Lestat was angry that he lost -- yes -- but also she walked away rather than finishing out the game. She knows exactly how to get to him. In my opinion, I think she's a lot like him (but not abusive like he is).

Melissa

I love the thoughtfulness, honesty, and purity in your reactions. There's something so compelling about watching you experience this in real time. I'd love to hear about your feelings regarding Claudia and her role in their "family." I cannot and will not gaslight you on Lestat. Many of the things he says and does are unforgivable. You made an excellent point about the placement of the ending flashback and how much better it hits seeing it now as opposed to earlier. It seems like you already tracked that Rashid is a vampire -- for some of us, that was a huge reveal. How does that confirmation color your thoughts about the interview that's happening in the current time of Dubai? Thanks! Can't wait until Thursday! Melissa

Melissa

same for Lestat i dont care what anyone said that dude is so toxic and insane

N

I loved your reaction and I like that you try to understand every character and their motivations even if you don’t agree with them or their actions. I’m glad you love the show and I cannot wait for you to get to season 2. Als, don’t worry about the reactions being long that’s what reactions are for. I do want to comment that in this episode when Louis swam the Mississipi to find Lestat and they started making out you could see Louis stabbing Lestat in the background while the camera was panning to Antoinette. That’s why Lestat was all bruised up in the following scene coz Louis beat him up. They are so toxic but I love them, they truly match each other’s freak. I’m also not sure why Lestat got mad at Claudia during the chess game but I don’t think it was because he lost, my mind can’t put it together right now.

RÆY

Also cackled when you were like "oh crap this reaction is going to be an hour and a half long" at some point and I looked over to see the video is ... an hour and a half long. ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

alee

These reactions are chicken soup for the soul! So needed as I'm currently suffering from the start of the work week blues. I was laughing through the entire intro. I can't believe people were coming at you over the names, I knew you'd pick them up over time! That said just in case the Youtube horde brings up the name thing again the interviewer's name is Daniel, not David. :D And ahhh you really really get this show on all of its levels and that's makes watching it back with you so satisfying. It's like going back in time to revisit the delight/outrage/shock/awe/sadness/fury/joy I felt when watching this show for the first time. Rewatching this for the nth time I'm once again struck by how much depth and dimension these characters have. It's obviously hugely thanks to the out of this world writing for the show but in equal measure is thanks to the insane acting of its cast. The show and its characters feel so!! alive. Everyone involved with the show is knocking it out of the park. It's why we can all sit around and write essays upon essays about every single one of them. (I am trying to exercise a huge amount of restraint and not drop a 12 page research paper every time I comment on one of these videos but it's so difficult, no guarantees about comment length restraint once you've finished both seasons... >:) + I love them all so much but it's a love that has to see them for all of their reprehensible, unforgivable, ugly behavior and acknowledge that they're "all kinds of fucked up" (to borrow a phrase from Louis ;). Your feelings and gut reactions are 100% valid, don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!

alee

Whew, you were fired up about this episode and it was amazing to hear your insights. All of your viewpoints were absolutely valid so never feel uneasy about expressing them. The fact that you have such well-observed perspectives is why I pay my money to hear you. Keep ‘em coming!

Andre

Man I love your reactions so much! It's so much fun getting to watch someone love this show as much as I, and so many others, do. And I love getting to watch you fall in love more and more with the characters. And there's still so much for you to discover about them!! God i'm so excited In regards to Sam Reid, yes omg he is so amazing. I think what's so special about him is he's playing an extremely toxic, complex character but he does it with so much love and care because he's actually a massive fan of the books. He's very protective of his character, and he understands him on a deeper level than many actors probably understand their characters. And it's probably so interesting being him getting to play this character in these early seasons cuz he's a massive fan of the whole series and so he understands Lestat's motivations more than most viewers will and he can play the character with so much knowledge of what's to come. But the way Sam talks about Lestat is fascinating. He's truly a student of this story, he's learned everything he can since he grew up loving the book series and now is using all his knowledge to give us the best interpretation of the character we'll probably ever see. His interviews about the show and the character are so fascinating. I love him and Jacob so much, and their relationship off screen is really beautiful too. It's just so awesome getting to see people really care and love what they do, in every aspect of it. And man oh man I can't wait for you to get to season 2! You're gonna freak!

Myranda

You feel how you feel and your reacting to what your seeing. You're letting the tale seduce you and that okay! This story his great because the writing is exceptional and highly emotinal. Everybody care because it such a good story told by a team of creatives, not just the actors, that are fan and dedicate the source material, Anne Rice books. Some book readers have been leaving with these characters for decade litteraly, others since 2022 when the show came out. And others are new to the Anne Rice universe. Like Louis says in the shows, it a journey an odyssey to fallow those characters and everyody is at differents points of their journey. I hope as a fandom that we will all have grace for each other wherever we are on the journey and not spoils or juge other people in the fandom. Let the tale seduce you! Discussing a character is not a personal attack and i hope people will not use a characters to pass jugement on people morals too. We, all of us in this ``beautifully unwell``fandom (Rolin Jones word not mine!) are as passionate as our lovely vampires, but we should still respect each other. Good journey!

Yesss, I was so excited for your reaction to this episode! Don't feel bad for the long reaction, I don't think I've ever written this much commentary on one episode lol I feel you on the hoping people can see the problems in these behaviors in real life. A lot of fans of this show tend to lean towards the side of "these are vampires and not subject to human morality". And I guess I can understand that, but personally I've always felt that since they used to be humans and all their monstrous actions are still being fueled by distinctly HUMAN emotions and experiences (hunger, trauma, loneliness, fear, shame, etc), I see no reason to not hold these vampires to the same standards as irl humans. It's why I'm a lot harsher on Lestat and other characters in this show than other fans, but I do think the fandom is generally good at separating the fiction from reality. Everyone at the very least can agree that Lestat is terrible, whether they like him or not. And it would be a much less interesting show if everyone simply made good decisions I suppose! But I am SO glad you can see through all the drama and tv glamor and really understand the toxicity. Louis and Claudia's goodbye scene always gets me. And even though they've started referring to each other as siblings instead of parent & child, I can really feel Louis' pain in that moment. Not only was he losing a daughter, he was losing the only other person he had to lean on in the situation he was in, but he was willing to let her go for her own happiness. Lestat is sooo messed up for dragging Claudia back the way he did, but god he wasn't wrong. Louis was quite sincerely suicidal and I'm sure that's not something Lestat enjoys knowing. Still no excuse for that truly psychotic display on the train. Honestly, Louis's (chronic?) depression is so sad to see. I honestly feel like it's something he's been dealing with even before becoming a vampire and it's only gotten worse. I feel the most bad for Claudia here. Louis genuinely loves her, but she's been giving a SHIT hand this whole time. On top of losing all her family when she was human, Louis wanted her because, while he always wanted a family, he felt guilty about his actions affecting the local black community and wanted redemption by doing something "good". Lestat only turned her for Louis and never cared as much for her. And she was turned at 14 and is stuck like that forever. Then she kills her first boyfriend, self-harms, runs away and gets assaulted, comes back home and has to witness her father abuse her other father so bad it takes him months to recover. And when she finally gets the chance to free herself, here comes Lestat. Of course she wants to kill him. I'm glad she has such a strong disposition that rather than roll over and take it like Louis (I understand why he does this), she's ready to take him OUT. Claudia's involvement is what makes me have such a problem with people who constantly bring up Louis being an unreliable narrator as if to defend Lestat. He's unreliable as most people are unreliable when telling stories, because we can only speak for ourselves. He's as unreliable as Claudia or Lestat would be telling their sides. Unreliable doesn't mean liar and if Claudia and Louis's accounts align so much, I'm inclined to believe their experience with Lestat is most likely to be accurate. I say all this as someone who LOVES Lestat as a character DOWN. He's a drama queen, extremely charismatic and charming, entertaining, romantic and very attractive. He's just also a narcisstic, delusional, terrible person/vampire, with SO much unresolved and unprocessed trauma that is hurting the people around him whether he knows or cares what he's doing or not. On a more lighthearted note, if you have time on your own, I'd recommend going back to the end of episode credits for this episode because they play the full audio of Lestat (actor Sam Reid took singing lessons for the role) singing the song he made for Louis, "Come to Me". It's just a nice listen! Can't wait for next episode for the finale! Feels like you just started the show and I blinked and we're already almost done and close to season 2!

Yeah, the actor for Lestat is freaking amazing! He is perfect for the role. Louis is really great as well. Wonderful presence for both of them (also both gorgeous). <3 Also I am nervous to watch this as well haha. It's so intense but so good.

Boyyyy it don’t matter if you get the name wrong at first lol it takes time to get them down. Yesssssssss, def don’t let them gaslight you; Lestat is the worst! I was literally screaming at my screen “Lestat can’t change he’s a narcissist!!!” the entire reaction and got sooo happy when you got there eventually hahaha. Was legit being a hater with Claudia and not taking any of his bs this episode. Glad you got to spend some time with your nieces. I hope you had a great time. Happy to have you back!

I don't think i've ever seen a character do something as f'ed up as what Lestat did to Claudia this episode. Seeing it again, I'm still in shock.

Jessie

I never noticed you mispronouncing names lol! But seriously don’t worry about people’s comments, this fandom is super enthusiastic and intense and people have a lot of opinions. Your reactions have been great.

Lol this my my favorite episode of the season, exactly though I wish some fans would understand sometimes that you can accept that someone has trauma and not excuse the way they inflict it on other people. For some reason they are able to understand that with Louis, Claudia and others but Lestat seems to be a weird blackhole.

Valentine

Actually lol, it is Daniel and you were calling him David 😂🤣

Martin Gage

Back in your case sweetheart. What a line
