2024-06-05 16:25:31 +0000 UTCI waited to watch this until the 80th anniversary of D-Day, which will be celebrated in France. But when I heard that France this year did not allow the Russian military who sacrificed 23 million human beings to defeat Germany to come to the D-Day celebrations I felt such shame. I am only alive because of the red army liberating Norway, freeing my grandparents and parents to allow me to become first generation American born in 1945. I don’t know what has happened in this upside down world that so many have forgotten which so many have given. They say that time does not repeat but it sure does rhyme. May we all pray for more peaceful world. My grandfather bought in WW one and my father in WW two had it not been for their sacrifices and the sacrifices of their brothers in arms, many of us elders would not be here to be great grandparents. My only prayers that humanity learns peace and how to treat humanity all across the world with compassion, honesty, and respect.

But the show is careful to show the little things that Sobel also does that are terrible leadership: for example, when he promotes Winters to 1st Lieutenant, he takes him out back behind the barracks where no one can see. Another way they show it is that Sobel has to look at name tags to call out the soldiers, whereas Col. Sink knows the name of the soldier who handed him a beer at the graduation celebration. There are many little touches like that, which show him (Sobel) to also be an incapable leader of people. I do hope you get an opportunity to read the book--it has a lot more examples of this. My experience was that leadership through fear and intimidation worked, but not nearly as well as leadership through example and mutual respect. Leadership of the latter kind also lasts and creates future leaders, whereas the former kind of leadership (again, in my experience) creates people who just want to get through it--and they may, or may not, retain the kind of tenacity that abusive leadership styles engender in people.

As you mentioned pictures of your dad being a baby-faced 18-year-old, that broke my heart because all these kids are so young, and being put through hell on the battlefield. It's so sad. I hope you don't mind me asking. And you don't have to share if you don't feel like it. What do you think is the reason he didn't share that he was awarded 2 bronze Stars? Not even to your mother. Do you think it was trauma-related? or he did not just want to remember? Thanks for explaining that. Having your weekend past taken sucks

Take it from a man who left Nigeria alone at 18 to pursue higher education in the United States - you're going to be all right, you are going to thrive, you're going to grow into the adult you set your mind to be. You're definitely going to miss home but you're going to make new family. Things will definitely be hard but you're not going to face anything that you're not capable of overcoming. 2024-06-02 23:33:22 +0000 UTCFinally found the time to start this. I’m only ten minutes in. Taken by surprise how much this is affecting me already. As I look at all these guys, I see my dad. He was in Europe as a medic with the infantry in WWII. His photos when he joined the army are those of such a baby-faced 18-year-old. The things he, and all these soldiers, saw and endured are just unfathomable. It wasn’t until after he died and we were going through his things that we discovered he had been awarded two Bronze Stars. Even my mother had no idea, and they were married for 68 years. So many untold stories. It feels right to see them told in some way here. But nothing has even happened yet, and it sure is stirring some emotions. OK, back to it. Oh, and maybe it becomes clear to you later but to answer your question, yes, a weekend pass meant permission to leave for the weekend and enjoy some downtime.

I am in the process of packing up and getting ready to move cities to pursue my law degree. This is all very exciting, but I am also filled with an underlying feeling of nostalgia and sadness for the past. In a sense, I am grieving the end of my childhood, teen years and early 20s. I am also contending with the reality that I will soon be far away from my family. The reactions you release and the community you are building give me a great sense of comfort these days. Much love.

Something that would make it so they couldn't be a good solider.. They killed themselves because they didn't qualify to go to fight for the country. (I have never seen this series either, so I'll be watching along.) Good thoughts about pacing what types of series/movies you watch because that way the shows are fun to watch /not repetitive.
