What's the proper way to hold a camera in this situation?

A little spoiler:
In the photo, there are two professional photographers. And honestly, they don’t care how they hold the camera.

But if you’re a beginner photographer, let's break it down and analyze.

So, we have two photographers shooting the same scene in portrait mode. As you can see, both are right-handed, but they hold their cameras differently. This is the key subtle nuance we’re exploring.

You might ask, “What's the catch?” Both are using their right hands to shoot, and each has a free left hand. One of the photographers is clearly using his left hand to adjust the focus.

That’s true—but not quite.
The thing is, he’s not adjusting the focus. (Just trust me on this—I was there.) In this case, his left hand is used to support the camera. Supporting it with the left hand makes it more comfortable and secure.
Trying to gently press the shutter button with one finger while straining the other fingers to hold a heavy camera isn’t exactly ideal.

So in this scenario, both hands are occupied.
Now, if you rotate the camera 180°, the camera will rest comfortably in your palm.

You might ask, “Isn’t that what the left hand is for? What’s the problem?”
Well, here’s the thing: the left hand can be used for adjusting the volume on your portable JBL sound box.
It can be used to answer a phone call.
To casually flick away a cigarette butt.
To hold different objects (in the frame) in front of the lens for a bokeh effect.
To signal your model for posing adjustments.
Or simply to hold on to the head of your assistant while they carry you on their shoulders during the shoot.

Something like that.

In short, shoot however you like. These details aren’t the most important thing.
What matters is that you like your model.

Как правильно держать камеру в такой ситуации?

Небольшой спойлер: на фотографии два профессиональных фотографа. И, честно говоря, им все равно, как держать камеру.

Но если вы начинающий фотограф, давайте разберемся и проанализируем.

Итак, у нас есть два фотографа, снимающих одну и ту же сцену в портретном режиме. Как видите, оба они правши, но держат свои камеры по-разному. Это и есть ключевой тонкий нюанс, который мы исследуем.

Вы можете спросить: «В чем подвох?». Оба используют правую руку для съемки, и у каждого есть свободная левая рука. Один из фотографов явно использует левую руку для настройки фокуса.

Это правда, но не совсем. Дело в том, что он не настраивает фокус. (Просто поверьте мне - я был там). В данном случае его левая рука используется для поддержки камеры. Попытка аккуратно нажать на кнопку спуска одним пальцем, одновременно напрягая другие пальцы, чтобы удержать тяжелую камеру, не совсем идеальна.

Поэтому в данном случае заняты обе руки. Теперь, если вы повернете камеру на 180°, она будет удобно лежать в вашей ладони.

Вы можете спросить: «Разве не для этого предназначена левая рука?
В чем проблема?»
Дело в том что левую руку можно использовать для регулировки громкости портативной колонки JBL.
Ее можно использовать, чтобы ответить на телефонный звонок, небрежно отбросить окурок, держать различные предметы (в кадре) перед объективом для создания эффекта боке.
Подать сигнал модели для корректировки позирования.
Или просто держаться за голову ассистента, пока он несет вас на плечах во время съемки.

Короче говоря, снимайте так, как вам нравится. Эти детали - не самое главное.
Главное, чтобы модель вам нравилась.
