Victoria stood prim and proper on the stoop as “she” awaited her escort. Passersby tipped their hats to her and without thinking, she would curtsey at each one. The perfect lady. Just what she wanted her wife to be.
Victor Dominic had been an inventor and an arcanist who had learned to combine the ancient arts of magic with the new precision of science to craft the most ingenious devices. With his latest he had intended to make his intended, Penny Huffman into his perfect bride.
Victor set out to “fix” Penny. He built an archway that would make Penny into the submissive, affectionate thin, blond, beauty he desired her to be. The magics were powerful and could hardly be contained by his devices but it would be enough for one transformation.
He invited Penny to see his creation but, free spirit that she was, when he tried to force her through the arch, she resisted. In the struggle, Victor lost his balance and fell across the threshold himself.
The Magics did their work exactly as Victor had designed but the mechanisms burned in the sudden expelling of their energies. When the smoke cleared, rescuers found Penny and Victoria buried in the rubble.
Penny and Lawrence, Penny’s brother stepped out Lawrence took Victoria’s hand. “Come love, now that we are engaged, we have plans to make. I am so glad my sister introduced us.” Victoria obediently followed her intended, compelled to show him submission and affection. Penny looked on with a satisfied smirk. As a fiance, Victor had been wicked and deceitful. As a Sister in law, Penny was sure that Victoria would be sweet and dedicated. After all, the magics wouldn’t let her do otherwise.
