SL: Chapter 749 – Viewpoint 66 – Day 6,518

Michelle

“What do you think?” Benjamin Katz asked me as he held up a wood carving.

“Looks nice. An animal?” I asked.

“Supposed to be a cow. I really need to get better at this,” he replied and I smiled. I leaned in and kissed him the cheek.

“It looks amazing.”

“Thank you. No trouble outside?” he asked.

“No. Everything is calm, don’t worry,” I told him. I had killed several people who were looking to start trouble. We had a small compound in the city. I had more than enough points saved up to live a comfortable for quite a long time.

While I recovered from the constant headaches and memory issues, Doctor Katz worked on his cooking and food preparation. He also carved in his spare time while I focused on controlling energy. He didn’t want to do anything with medicine or healing any more. At least that was what he had said.

We were both broken people. My mind was fractured in a way that was hard to describe and his spirit was broken. It was nice to be living quietly and not have to fight. There was a three story around the outside of the compound with only entrance. I had my skills ready to defend this place if needed. The same with Benjamin.

He didn’t like to make examples, but I didn’t mind. Leaving the corpses behind as a show of force. “There is something I need to tell you,” I told him while sitting across from him. He put down his wood carving tools and looked up at me. “I am pregnant.”

“Pregnant,” he said in shock and I nodded.

“Yes,” I replied and he smiled.

“That is great news, we will make sure it is healthy, and I will keep an eye on you. Just relax. I will make the best meals,” he said. I smiled in return and got up. He got up as well and we embraced.

“Thank you for not saying I should get rid of it,” I said quietly.

“I love you. Whatever you decide is for the best,” he replied. We kissed again and then sat back down.

“What should we name our child?” I asked.

“You can decide. You make the best decisions,” he said.

“Well, if you have an idea I would love to hear it.”

“Well, we could let it come to us in time. There is no rush. You are one month along at most, right?” he asked.

“About that. It is hard to tell. I haven’t gotten a regeneration in a long time since you said I needed to focus on healing naturally and resetting my body could cause issues,” I replied.

“Well, we will just have to wait. Don’t worry I will make sure nothing goes wrong,” he said.

“It is fine. I am capable, not some wall flower,” I replied.

“My main concern is your high stats. We are both high stat individuals. It may cause complications. Someone with your stats…well the only other one comparable is the Divine Empress,” he said the last bit quietly.

“Don’t worry, I won’t be going insane, and we will raise our child with love, not screaming furniture,” I replied and he chuckled at that.

“That sounds like a great idea. You…do you want to tell Michael?” he asked.

“I am done with grinding for now. I am content to be here and raise our child or children togeather. Who knows, we might have more than one,” I teased with a smile.

“We will need a crib. And proper toys. Oh, and clothing. There is so much,” he said.

“You don’t need to worry. Just focus on making sure we stay healthy and making your wonderful meals, I will figure out the rest,” I said and held out my hand and he took it in his.

“You are too good to me Michelle. A broken man like me,” he said.

“Don’t say that. You are amazing and will be an amazing father. And even if you aren’t perfect, we are in this togeather,” I replied.

Living with Benjamin was the best decision when everything had fallen apart. I didn’t know who I was for a while. I had almost died. The headaches were terrible. But the calm atmosphere here and living togeather was the best decision.

I could have kept grinding up points, but Michael was far ahead of me. Summoned monsters could only be so strong. My path and time as a powerful combatant had ended. Now I would face a new challenge, motherhood. I was nervous about bringing a new life into this place. But it felt right. Looking forward not backward.

If there was a serious problem I could always reach out to Clarissa and I knew she had her people nearby keeping an eye on us. That was fine. We had managed to carve a small piece of quiet and peace out of this hell and I wasn’t going to let anyone take it away.

“Well they have to have your last name, even if no one uses last names around here,” I said.

“I left that behind with my healing…at least I thought so. I will think about it,” he said.

“That is all I ask. And no, we are not naming our child Michael no matter what. There are so many already,” I said and he laughed. It was a nice laugh that I rarely heard.

“We would have to call him Youngest Michael then. But no. We will come up with a great name. Don’t worry Michelle, I will make sure our child and you are okay,” he said.

“I know. I trust you,” I replied while we kept holding hands. I could feel the trust from him. “We will have to teach them ourselves. No schools unfortunately.”

“I am sure we can figure out something. We both have more than enough points to live comfortably for a long time. I am sorry I don’t help you more securing this compound from the rest of the city,” he replied.

“It is fine. My skills are better for combat and remote combat. My summons are constantly checking the buildings and area around us.” In addition to the three story high building wall, there was a gap of three building plots to the next building. We weren’t near the plaza or the edge of the city either. That way we weren’t bothering others all the time. Better to be avoided and feared and avoid complications if possible.

“Some plants would make this place a lot better. We could some flowers and transplant them.” I nodded at this suggestion.

“That would be lovely. You will head out, or should I?” I asked.

“Let’s go togeather. There is no reason to split up, especially if one of us leaves the city. We need to get some more supplies as well. I want to try my hand at some spices. It won’t be easy, but I think I can manipulate some plants enough,” he said.

“Growing food, has always been a challenge,” I replied.

“True, but it is necessary. Depending on the store is a danger. Especially once people get stronger, I worry,” he replied.

“There are only two people that are concerning. Michael and Clarissa. Everyone else, I can handle,” I replied. Young Michael might be a challenge depending on how many stats he had, but I was a level 6 combatant. I also had a large stash level 7 crystals as a reserve if I needed them. Clarissa and Michael had made sure I didn’t need for anything.

“Yes, they will sort out everything, hopefully,” Benjamin said with a frown.

“I know you didn’t part on the best of terms, but they are just worried about you,” I said.

“I know. I…I am just useless.”

“No, you aren’t. Everyone runs into trouble sometimes. We just have to help each other out. Like a team,” I said.

“You always know what to say. Hoping for a brighter future. I love you,” he said.

“I love you too. And we will get through all of this togeather. Don’t worry. And if anyone causes trouble, I will drop some monsters on their head.”

“Big scary ones?” he joked.

“With fire breath and sharp claws,” I joked back. We just sat there enjoying the silence between us. Nothing more needed to be said. I had been worried about revealing my pregnancy for nothing. Benjamin was a good man and he would be a great father. He cared so much, that it broke him. But togeather we would make a brighter future togeather.

I couldn’t wait to see our child. We would have to teach them right from wrong. And I would help them become strong. That way no one could easily bully them. I knew that if I asked Michael, he would probably gift a couple billion worth in points. But we weren’t ready to return to that life. Him coming here would ruin the peace we had. Maybe in a decade we could talk with him, without all the baggage weighing both of us down.

I didn’t blame him for my accident, but I had been injured. Losing Amy also hurt, she had been a good friend. But the cruelty of this place was immense. But I wouldn’t let that weight me down. My heard started to throb in pain, but it was nowhere as bad as before. In time it would hopefully go away.

“Should we get married?” Benjamin asked me.

“Married, who would do it?” I asked.

“Well, you are having my child, um, would you marry me Michelle?” he got up and got down on one knee. “Um, I don’t have a ring.”

“Silly, yes. A ring isn’t needed. Just you,” I replied and he smiled.

“Sorry if I messed it up. I got worried there,” he said. He was such a doofus, but he was my doofus.

“I guess I would Mrs. Katz, then?” I asked.

“I don’t know your last name,” he said.

“Katz, that is my last name,” I said, and everything seemed right with us. This moment of happiness, I wanted it to stretch on forever. Not having to worry about monsters, calamities, or the Almighty System. Just the two of us, happy with a child on the way. The problems outside could sort themselves out. Other people would pick up those burdens and worries.

Both of us had officially retired from fighting and grinding. Now we would raise children.

The fact that this is wholesome is very scary to me. I'm dreading the horrors that await this poor broken couple and their children.
