Ever since we closed our website in 2016 people have messaged asking where they could see the old diymuscle content.....a particular model or the entire archive. Well I sat on it for years. There is SO MUCH that it would take months to process. I've been working at it daily for 6 weeks and I'm only half way through. My goal was to post on youtube and generate money from ad revenue. Then once a little money started rolling in we could make new content and resurrect the brand.
Here's the problem
1. Copyright claims....usually several per video. Gyms almost always have background music. So the youtube scanners pick up the song and flag the video. If there is a claim you cant make money from the video. You have two choices. Erase the music or replace with a royalty free track. Both time consuming options.....plus a video with muted or altered sound is less dynamic in my opinion.
2. In order for a youtube channel to be monetized they have to meet specific criteria. 1000 subscribers AND 4000 watched hours (we're currently at 1600).
3. Even after the criteria is met a person at youtube looks at your channel and deems whether advertisers would be interested in promoting through your channel.
4. I want youtube to push our videos to a broader audience.....more impressions. But the most important criteria on the analytics dashboard is average view duration. This shows you how long your audience is watching your content. The longer the better. Our stats are terrible. Lol. Average view duration is 1 min 22 secs. Even though most of the newly posted videos are over 30mins. That means people aren't sticking around very long.
SOLUTION
To try and increase engagement I'm going to post shorter more dynamic clips on youtube. Hopefully this increases the view duration slightly. Once we get more traffic I can return to uploading full length features. Thanks!
