What a beautiful, painful story that I'm going to think about for a long time. I finished the show last week and it's come up in conversation with my friends so many times already, I can't stop thinking about it.
I really wanted to do a live discussion for the show but timing just hasn't lined up for before I go, unfortunately! Thank you so much for watching with me, it's been such a tough but good one

2024-10-21 02:33:43 +0000 UTCif you rewatch the show you'll notice that a big part of the reason why bumseok felt so isolated is because unlike sieun and sooho, he felt powerless. he never felt like an equal. those two were able to fend for themselves and even protect him if they wanted to but he never had another choice but to be scared. so even when sooho protected him it felt patronizing to bumseok. like a flaunt of everything that he'll never be. in a way when you depend so much on someone else for any reason you feel dominated and inherently lesser-than. and with his already poor self-esteem, you can only imagine how terribly shitty he felt about himself, and since he couldn't manage to be genuinely brave and stand up against his aggressors (his old bullies, his father and even gilsu when he was at the police station daring him to punch him and accusing him of not having the guts to do it like his friends do) all he could do to escape and feel better about himself is resorting to really low means (which is the origin story of every single bully in existence, in one way or another). he'd beat up people when they were down, he'd buy his way into getting people to like him, etc. he turned into the thing that hurt him the most because it was the only option he could dare to choose to escape being the target of it. standing up against it would require honor, a sense of self-worth and the most basic sliver of dignity, none of which he had (unlike sieun and sooho, despite all the shit they also had to endure but which they managed to overcome). so what do you do when you can't for the life of you ever feel up to par with the people you envy? you bring others down so as not to feel like the single most miserable creature on earth. at least there's Someone below you "too".

2024-09-22 04:54:32 +0000 UTCahhhh this is tricky but I'd recommend waiting honestly, I have a feeling s2 is gonna be very different from the webtoon just based off of the characters that will be included and what the probable main plot line will be etc so ig it depends if you're ok with being upset that the drama doesn't include certain things 😭 def recommend reading the webtoon though, it's soooooo great

2024-09-20 13:31:09 +0000 UTCexcuse me if i go on a little rant but no show has or ever will hit me like this show it is genuinely my favorite kdrama if not my favorite series of all time its just the depth and complexity of which the characters are shown and depicted and in which ways they change throughout its trajectory and every time i rewatch it i learn and connect the dots and foreshadowing more and more and while yes it can be very painful to rewatch i feel that im deeply connected to this show as well as the webtoon and let me go on a little tangent about si eun and his motivations because a lot of people like you said think well "what about his future why isn't he thinking about that and the truth is that si euns future was never his to begin with it was always what his parents wanted so he just went along with it without complaint for the most part to keep them complacent because he knew how they felt about him and how they never really wanted him and they felt him as a burden so his whole life he tried to make it up to them by being a somewhat "perfect son" so when Young-Bin starts messing with him hes trying to take away the one thing he has so he snaps and then when soo ho comes into his life his whole perspective changes because in his life he never really had his own reason or purpose for living beyond what his parents wanted so when he met and started becoming close to soo ho as well as bum seok he started feeling alive and that he had a reason to live and a reason to keep going for himself this time he felt connected and seen by both in different ways so when he tried to get bum seok to stop he really didn't want him to go past the point of no return because he got what bum seok was feeling on some level so when bum seok started to drift away he felt almost as if he was losing apart of himself that he had just gained. when bum seok then went after soo ho he felt that he had to do everything in his power to protect soo ho or at least shield him and as well as soo ho felt that same and they would do anything to prevent the other from getting hurt but in the end they both lost everything so when they ruined soo hos life he felt he had nothing left and the one thing that made him feel alive and the one thing he had to live for was gone so he probably did think about his future but it was never really his so he didnt care what happened to his since soo hos was already ruined so he did the one thing he knew how to do even though it was too late he tried again to protect soo ho yet again because without soo ho he had no future. wow im so sorry i wrote too much and these aren't even all my thoughts on si eun but, i love this show so much and i do recommend reading the webtoon if you're interested as the events of this are just the prequel.

2024-09-19 01:02:28 +0000 UTCThis show is so special, I truly don't think I'll ever find anything quite like this that will be able to bring out the same emotions I felt while first watching this show. these last two episodes BROKE me inside and out honestly lmao. Anyways, yes, this show is based on a webtoon of the same name and this first season is based on sieuns backstory which we only learn about a little bit into the webtoon. The webtoon also only just recently finished, which is also when we finally learnt about what suho's fate is (I won't spoil). The webtoon is based on sieun at his new school and the new friendships he makes etc (some of which are ICONIC and I can’t wait to see them in live action). The new season is apparently releasing in January 2025 and it’s meant to be on Netflix! Which is so amazing and a testament to how well this show was received and how good it is. I only hope the writers do well with the new characters and I’m curious as to how they portray the og storyline, as well as how they incorporate suho into it? It’s unclear to as if choi hyunwook will be in the second season, there hasn’t been an official announcement but I’d say there definitely is some hope there and It is possible that the production is just keeping it a secret to not spoil anything, fingers crossed haha. either way, there are about to be some amazing new characters that I’m looking forward to seeing. Deep down I know that nothing can beat this first season, but I have hope that the second one will have it’s own charm to it as the writers and directors are the same as far as I know. Sorry for the long comment, as you can probably tell, this show is genuinely everything lol, can’t believe it’s been almost two years since I first watched this, how insane.
