Apparently that wasn't actually Buffy, it was a body double Giles arranged so people would have a harder time tracking her down while she led the other Slayers. She was dating The Immortal because Andrew thought it would be funny lmao.
The two girls at the end were also slayers, he's running the Italy branch.

Good to see you like Illyria a bit more now. I had worries 😁

I like this theory!! You're right. It would've worked better like that!

Me too!! I think they could've done so much with Illyria! And I came to the comments to say the same thing about the cookie dough. LOL

I really wish we would have had another season to flesh out Illyrias character. I hated watching Fred die, but the concept of having her semi resurrected through Illyria over time is pretty interesting to me. Also, the scene where Angel starts rambling about Buffy being "undercooked" and the Immortal "sitting around eating cookie dough." That was a callback to the Buffy series finale, where Buffy explained to Angel that she wasnt ready to be with anyone yet. She used an analogy about her being "cookie dough that isnt finished baking yet." Buffy is the "cookie dough" that the Immortal is "sitting around and eating" lol

I have a fan theory about Andrew. Sometime after this episode, he parts ways with the Scoobies to pursue his dream of becoming a writer in LA. He gets a few odd screenwriter jobs, does some work as a script doctor; starts going by "Drew" as a pen name. Then he sells his "Buffy: Slayer of the Vampyres" script to be turned into a movie.
Only, the director and one of its lead stars keep making changes and make it too campy and the
movie is a bomb.
But then, a few years later he gets a call about turning that story into a series and jumps at it. He has lots of material to draw from, based on accounts the Scoobies shared with him.
Then the network wants to create an Angel spin0off, which he does with the help of Lorne, who's more familiar with how those events played out; working under the name GREENwalt.
Of course when Buffy gets to the part where Drew and the rest of the trio factor in, he embellished the character based on him; changing the name to something like, Joseph and exaggerating some of his personality.

My only gripe with this episode is the tonal placement within the season; especially in context of the episode right before or after. In teasing Angel going dark, this is an abrupt departure of that story momentum.
I think this would have worked better earlier in the season; at the least Italy stuff. Swap it with Damage (the psychotic Slayer episode) and move it up to right after Spike become corporeal. This would have been a better explanation for Spike staying in LA, if he and Angel both go to Rome to find Buffy and all the shenanigans ensue; as they come to terms with Buffy being involved with The Immortal; and that's the reason Spike decides to stick around and the lame "I went out so cool, how could I just turn up now?" bullshit reason he gave.
Then for this episode, it's the psychotic Slayer and Andrew double crossing them at the end by taking Dana and saying the Scoobies don't trust Angel anymore feeds better into the last two episodes.

This episode has got some great interactions between Angel & Spike: particularly the part on the plane, where Spike says
“I just want to see you happy. But not too happy, because then I’d have to stake you…on second thoughts, have it.”
That’s one of the great tragedies about Angel getting cancelled: this was the first season of Angel & Spike together without Buffy being the main story that connects them together; I’d have loved to see more of their history together- including bringing back the likes of Darla & Drusilla & how they react to BOTH Angel & Spike having souls.
We were robbed of endless possibilities, when they cancelled Angel: the show definitely still had legs, & could have easily gone on for several more seasons, if it had wanted to.
I know they brought out the graphic sequel to Angel in novel/comic book, but it’s just not the same: it would be great if they could reboot the series, but maybe as an animation, to get around the fact that they’re all 20+ years older now.
I doubt it’ll happen: but hopefully the new Buffy spinoff show will be great, & that it leads to new spinoff shows or films.
Time to get on to the last 2 episodes…though I’m not ready for this show to end all over again haha.
