Miracle for the Olympic flick. Kurt Russell (Disney Legend) absolutely NAILS Herb Brooks.

2026-02-04 01:26:14 +0000 UTCWow, I don't have a SHRED of interest in any of these movies. 😄 They would always be on TMC in the 90s and all would get boring whenever I tried to watch them.

2026-01-12 03:17:25 +0000 UTCMight I suggest the Best Little Whore House in Texas. Based on the musical staring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds. It’s a nice romantic movie with little silver snaps on it.

2026-01-07 23:01:20 +0000 UTCSorry -- am very disabled (terminal) so my one finger that still works gets shaky when I type. Ray Charles (movie Ray, early 2000s) is phenomenal! If you want more fun, That thing you do with Tomnhanks son Colin is sooo fun -- and the that song will stay in your head for days

2026-01-07 22:59:41 +0000 UTCSide note Ashley, I'd love to see you react to AVATAR, AVATAR THE WAY OF WATER, and THE DARK CRYSTAL. And maybe CITY OF ANGELS.

2026-01-07 02:01:50 +0000 UTCOh, I loved Fiddler on the Roof growing up, the music is so good. I also think Cool Runnings is a great winter Olympic movie, and I think you would really enjoy it. Another good winter Olympics movie I enjoyed is Eddie the Eagle (2016), also based on a true underdog type story. Hugh Jackman plays his coach. And while it's not directly about the Olympics, one of my favorite ice skating movies is Ice Castles (1978), which I guess would have fit well on this poll, definitely has some romance. Robby Benson was such a good-looking teen idol back in the day.

2026-01-07 01:40:41 +0000 UTCAshleigh must see My Fair Lady and Guys & Dolls at some point in time. She will really love Guys & Dolls and she will enjoy (and have much to say about) My Fair Lady.

2026-01-07 01:25:13 +0000 UTCI don't think you can live in the present world without seeing "Fiddler on the Roof" Historically and Culturally, it is one of the richest movies. The music & lyrics are just as great! When my Irish family gets together (and while we were growing up as teenagers) we would drink Irish whisky and dance to the music. It was part of our family "Tradition!" Fiddler on the Roof got my vote on this one, but almost all of them [Except "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex*" are worth seeing and rate as classics in my thinking. "Everything You Always Wanted to Know" was a bust. Not funny, not entertaining, not educational nor informative. An effort by the maker, but a waste of time in my opinion. I fear that some want Ashleigh to LOOK AWAY in repulsion at one of the earlies scenes in the film as she did while watching another movie that she has reviewed (and did not really care for either). However, her reactions are always entertaining and enjoyable!
Jeffrey
2026-01-07 01:10:00 +0000 UTCWhat about an older musical like My Fair Lady, Oklahoma!, or Guys and Dolls? Or, a newer musical like Into the Woods (2014 - streaming on Disney+) or Rent (1986)?

2026-01-07 01:08:46 +0000 UTCBonnie and Clyde is a classic, but she would love THE GOODBYE GIRL because of the cast (and it did win a bunch of Oscars).
Paul Stelter
2026-01-07 01:04:06 +0000 UTCFor some reason I was thinking she’s already watched Miracle. But def a good option for Winter Olympics!

2026-01-07 01:04:04 +0000 UTCA true classic movie, Perfect for February with two Love stories included, top musical (and fun like Sound of Music & Singing in the Rain), much quoted, Great Cast, top songs (the lyrics that Ashleigh will really enjoy) great script AND COSTUMES Ashleigh will also Love. I cannot believe it is not listed on the excel spreadsheet so I assume it has not been mentioned before is: Guys & Dolls (1955). It is fun, entertaining and very educational ~especially about guys and dolls!

2026-01-07 00:14:39 +0000 UTCI have no idea what any of this is... 😳

2026-01-07 00:00:14 +0000 UTC"Miracle" is the #1 classic American Olympics film. My person choice is "The Cutting Edge" which was one of my late wife's favorite films and a great Valentines movie even though the two main characters hate each other in the beginning.
Jeffrey
2026-01-06 23:44:52 +0000 UTC"Heaven Can Wait" has an interesting history. There was a stage play called "Heaven Can Wait" that got turned into a movie, but there was already an unrelated movie called "Heaven Can Wait," so they changed the title to "Here Comes Mr. Jordan," which then got a (sort of) sequel called "Down to Earth." (They also changed the title of the play to "The Wonderful Journey," but later changed it back.) Then in 1978, "Here Comes Mr. Jordan" got remade with its original title of "Heaven Can Wait," and a little while later, "Down to Earth" also got a (loose) remake called "Xanadu," except that "Xanadu" took out all the references to "Here Comes Mr. Jordan," making it a remake of a sequel unrelated to the movie that that got the sequel. Years later, "Heaven Can Wait" got yet another remake (this time with Chris Rock), but for some reason, they changed the title again to "Down to Earth," despite having nothing to do with the previous movie called "Down to Earth!" (And also, "Xanadu" got turned into its own stage play.)

2026-01-06 23:37:51 +0000 UTCHi Ashleigh, for your Jan. 30th I`d like to suggest (Ball Of Fire 1941 Comedy/Romance) starring Gary Cooper & Barbara Stanwyck. As you are already doing my other choice the Thin Man on Jan 12th.

2026-01-06 22:59:30 +0000 UTCHave to agree that Cool Runnings 1993 is must see for a winter olympics genre. Other good options could be I, Tonya 2017 or Miracle 2004. Or just go straight up ridiculous with Blades of Glory 2007 which is the only winter olympics movie I can think of thats not based on a true a story 😁

2026-01-06 22:47:13 +0000 UTCCool Runnings for Winter Olympics!! Plus, it’s one of John Candy’s last roles before his passing.

2026-01-06 21:20:15 +0000 UTCThere are lots of Winter Olympics movies…. Eddie the Eagle is one I’d recommend… has Ashleigh watched Cool Runnings?

2026-01-06 21:20:09 +0000 UTCIf you go for a newer musical, I recommend "Chicago". Such a fun movie. I'm not so sure you'll enjoy "Hello, Dolly". It's got an excellent cast and pedigree. And the story is great. But o...m...g... do those dance numbers drag on and on. I'm voting "Good bye Girl" on this poll, even though there is no way it's going to win. Can't wait for "Watership Down". Believe it or not, it was one of my favorite movies as a kid, which probably explains a lot about me. LOL! I even have the Criterion Special Edition Blu-ray.

2026-01-06 20:40:42 +0000 UTCi vote for an older movie and I think you know which one (though that might be bold of me to assume)

2026-01-06 19:39:10 +0000 UTCMickey Rooney has profusely apologized over and over again throughout the years for his portrayal. He admitted his mistake and took responsibility for his thoughtlessness. It shows that he was man enough to admit he was wrong and apologize for it!!

2026-01-06 18:55:09 +0000 UTCThe Apartment is way cool as a story, it is a shame it is not going to win

2026-01-06 18:30:12 +0000 UTCFiddler on the roof is definitely not a valentines movie, but I voted for it anyway because she needs to see it.

2026-01-06 17:54:38 +0000 UTCAs you mentioned Valentine's Day, I would like to request the film "Marty" from 1955. It won Oscars for Best Picture and Best Actor, and the Palme D'Or from the Cannes Film Festival. I think you would enjoy this one very much.
