Could you be naked with your friends?

In Finland, the sauna isn’t just a winter thing... it’s part of life, every season 🇫🇮 Some people even ask, “Why do you Sauna in summer?” But the truth is, our summers aren’t that hot compared to most countries. The temperature rarely goes above 25°C, and the lakes stay cool. So even in summer, jumping from the Sauna into a refreshing lake feels amazing 😊

In winter, of course, the lakes freeze. Then the experience changes. The water is much colder, and the contrast between hot and cold becomes even more powerful! 🥶 It’s intense, but deeply cleansing.

In summer, on the other hand, you can stay in the lake longer, floating peacefully and watching the midnight sun.

But sauna isn’t just about sweating or cooling off. It’s about being in nature, sitting quietly on the pier, watching fish swim below, feeling the calm. It’s about connection... with yourself, with friends, with silence. In the Sauna, people often share things they wouldn’t elsewhere. Maybe because when you’re already naked, it’s easier to be open in other ways too 😊

Could you be naked with your friends and where are you from? How does that feel to you?

Natural, awkward, funny, freeing… or something else?

I would be naked with friends, no issues. I'm a nudist and I believe in freedom. Unfortunately, I'm from Canada and most people see nudity as bad and private

Moi Nina, mitä kuuluu? I grew up in The Netherlands and happen to have no issues with nudity and being nude. Now I have been living in Finland for almost 25 years and I still have no issues with being nude in sauna, whether with family, with friends, with colleagues or with strangers. However, some saunas I visited require covering of private parts so I follow the rules like the Finns do.

Hi Nina! I'm from Poland, and even though the country is relatively prudish, I could be naked in a sauna with friends, family, or colleagues—it feels freeing and natural to me, though the vast majority of them wouldn’t be comfortable. At home, my dad (he loves woodworking, like yours) built an infrared cabin. I mostly use it alone—my family never became fans—but when my sister was a teenager and modeling to lose weight, we’d go together in underwear. As a teen, she wouldn’t have felt comfortable fully nude with her brother in such a small space. Poland has a duality in sauna etiquette. In better facilities (dedicated wellness centers or larger aquaparks/thermal baths), the rules are borrowed from neighbors like Germany, Czechia, and Slovakia: mixed-sex, textile-free zones (nude or towel-wrapped; towels mandatory under the entire body), with a variety of saunas (including aufguss rituals), steam rooms, whirlpools, and brine baths—often 16+ or 18+. I don’t fully understand how a country like Poland adopted German-style nude mixed-sex saunas, but it likely started with cross-border tourism in the 1990s–2000s; Poles visiting spas in Germany or Czechia came back and demanded the same standards here. The trend has been growing steadily over the last 20 years. By contrast, poolside saunas in smaller towns (more conservative than big cities) usually require swimsuits—often chlorine-soaked, so the smell isn’t pleasant. I’ve been to public saunas maybe 20+ times in my life; one of those was with my sister, and we were naked inside the saunas and pools. Thanks for the wonderful content on your channel—I really enjoy it! 😊

Here in the US. People get naked but, they are; odd about stuff. Two men sit naked no place together that I know of. At the YMCA there used to be suana. I no longer do this because here people are as I said odd. There, where you are it seems okay, normal. In Florida some places it is normal.
