She told me it’s part of Aufguss ✨ a special ritual in Germany where a sauna master pours water on the stones and then spreads the steam with big towel movements 🌬️🔥
In Finland we don’t have anything like this, so at first I thought it looked a bit silly… but when I felt how the heat wrapped around me, I realized how amazing it actually is 💛
I definitely want to experience a real Aufguss myself and with my van roadtrip coming up soon, it’s something I’m really looking forward to 🌍🚐😊 any places you recommend???

In Germany you should visit Vabali Spa in Düsseldorf or Mediterrana near Cologne :) I think Vabali Spa is a company with other places in Hamburg, too.

Rusian banja, finnish sauna, meditation sauna, aroma therapy sauna, herbal sauna, steam sauna, Kelo sauna (the sauna that is out to kill you), you can have an antique Roman bathhouse experience, there is a beer sauna, tropical, citrus...... endless I would be honored to show it to you, if you come to Munich.

In Germany we have big „Therme“, a lot of saunas, water pools, relaxing area (for a nap), restaurants included, professional massage area. Sometimes a bit crowded, but usually you’ll find a quiet space (avoid weekends/ public holidays). You can spend a hole day inside. Also we have smaller places, 3-5 saunas, a small pool, small „restaurant“ and relaxing area. Quieter, more elaborate „Aufguss“. Another recommendation is Loma Sauna Osnabrück- also allowed to stay overnight with a van. That is quite common. Most saunas are mixed (usually one day a week women only), and all are without clothes. Bathrobe usually mandatory for the restaurant! Enjoy - a little bit different to Finnland but i like it. Greeting to Finnland - from a Van user on the way to experience a new sauna tomorrow.

2025-09-09 11:16:25 +0000 UTCHi Nina, Not only in Germany the aufguss is well known and exercised. Also in the Netherlands and Belgium. Thermen Berendonck and Thermen Bussloo in the Netherlands even have a sauna theater where the aufguss is a whole show with videowall.
