Lily C.A.T. | KYOTO VIDEO

The 80s saw numerous examples of anime creators cribbing from their favorite Hollywood movies, notably Ridley Scott's Alien. But out of all of them, it is 1987's Lily C.A.T. that stand triumphant as the most awesomely stylish ripoff.

Nice Summation, I'd add that there's one thing missing from that "murderers' row" of creative talent, a writer. The OVA boom even more than the long TV series of the 70s really shows a huge gap in turning ideas into actions. If anything the OVAs of the boom often suffer from too many ideas, insufficiently developed.
