Almost all the Avatars told Aang repeatedly that he was doing this the wrong way. Even Wan’s memories weren’t fully enough; only something deeply personal, like Katara getting injured, would break the shell. Aang has now crossed the line; the question is, how much further will he go?

This way, the story would use Ty Lee’s method and simply develop it further. Ty Lee’s chi blocking was introduced early in Book 2, unlike the Lion Turtles and their hidden ability to take away bending that came out at the last moment.

2025-02-14 13:26:06 +0000 UTCAs sad as I am that Katara got maimed I will say I am glad this was the wake up call Aang needed to see to take this war seriously. This is not a dream but a cruel reality he was awaken to,

2025-02-14 04:18:30 +0000 UTCEyyyy, Aang is finally getting his act together. This was the moment canon needed, in my view. I loved the canon show, but I thought the deus ex new power that they gave him so he never needed to reckon with the gap between his ideals and the real world was a massive cop out to otherwise impeccable writing. Nice work.

2025-02-13 23:44:00 +0000 UTCThings are becoming increasingly tense as well as incredible! I swear that part of my soul escaped from what they did to Katara, I never thought it would come to that. I suppose that what you see here is precisely what would happen if Avatar were a series dedicated to a slightly older audience. Aang's entire conflict about not killing was easier to cope with as it was a more youthful series, but now is when it takes an approach in which this need cannot be overlooked.
