Chapter 33 (Counter Attack)

The entire city of Trost was in chaos.

Citizens flooded the streets as they ran towards the inner gate in order to get to safety. Bells were ringing throughout the city, alerting all civilians to evacuate immediately.

The Garrison had split into two main squadrons. The first would be in charge of stopping the titans as long as possible, while the second squad would evacuate all the civilians.

Meanwhile, the newly graduated recruits prepared for the upcoming Trost headquarters battle.

"Now that you have graduated from the Training Corps, you have become full-fledged soldiers!" One of the Garrison soldiers yelled at the new soldiers. "Unfortunately, the Scout Corps, who have our most experienced fighters in their ranks, are in the middle of an expedition! So right now, we, the Stationary Guard, are the only ones working on repairing the wall and preparing for the imminent attack! That is why you will actively participate in this operation! Once you finish refilling your gas supplies and blades, head to the plaza to receive instructions on your duty!"

The inside of the supply warehouse was a complete hustle and bustle. Many found themselves refueling their equipment or filling their box with blades, while others found themselves huddled in the corners while shaking in fear.

Once all the recent graduates had gathered in the courtyard of the headquarters, the captain of the Trost District Garrison Troops, Kitz Weilman, stood before them.

"I want everyone to divide into groups of five members, just like in training! You will be under the command of the Garrison Troop!" The captain ordered in a shrill voice that seemed to be on the verge of panic. "Your main task will be to help supply, transmit information and eliminate the titans! In the first line of defense will be the vanguard! In the second line, the squads of recruits commanded by the Garrison Troop! And in the rear, the elite squad of the Garrison Troops will take care of the evacuation of civilians! Furthermore, we have been told that the advance squad has been annihilated!"

That information was greeted by gasps of surprise and fear from all the cadets.

"The Titans have destroyed the outer gate and entered the city! That means the Armored Titan is likely to reappear at any moment with the intention of destroying the inner door!"

Panic and fear began to seep into the recent graduates' hearts. A grim expression graced the features of everyone present. Murmurs of disbelief and fear began to echo through the ranks of the cadets.

"Be quiet!" Captain Weilman ordered. "Right now, the vanguard is fighting! The objective of this defense operation is only one; Protect the Wall Rose until the entire population is evacuated! Also, as you must already know, whoever flees from the enemy in the middle of the battlefield will be punished with the death penalty! So give your lives to the cause and make sure it makes a difference! That's it! Stand down!"

"Yes, sir!" All the cadets responded, making the regulation salute.

'What a way to raise morale,' Eren thought, looking with annoyance and displeasure at the captain, who began to move quickly from the place.

The cadets quickly began to organize with their respective squads. Although, there were those who couldn't control their fear and began to panic.

"Why ... why did I have to go here today?" Jean murmured, fear and despair in his voice. "Tomorrow I was going to go inside!"

And he wasn't the only one expressing his complaint. Many cadets huddled against the wall and began sobbing, while others even vomited due to the fear and nerves they felt.

Even with the desperate situation they were in, Eren remained calm and collected.

Grabbing Jean by his jacket, Jean's face quickly changed to one of anger when he saw Eren in front of him.

"I hope you're happy, Eren, this is exactly what you wanted isn't it. Fighting Titans on your first day, this is better than you had hoped." Instead of countering him, Eren pinned him against a pillar.

"So what, are you going to give up like this? You said you would become an MP, for what have we suffered for three years, we suffered though worse. Through Blood and Sweat. You survived that, you can easily survive this, and tomorrow you will go to the interior." Eren shoved Jean away. The latter looked shocked that Eren, of all people, encouraged him to keep moving forward.

Eren quickly found Mikasa standing beside Ymir and Historia. All three nodded back at him. The new cadet knew they were all ready, and so was he.

Later

He encountered his squad on the rooftops of one of the many houses in the Trost District. It should be said that he was surprised to learn who he would lead.

"Well, Eren it seems you are our leader. We will follow your lead." Thomas said with a bright smile.

Eren nodded before he looked at Armin, with Mina standing beside him. "Armin, do it." the others looked confused except Armin, who pulled out a flare gun from his pocket; Mina was about to ask where he got it from when Armin aimed it upwards. A Black signal flew far higher than all the other signals.

"Armin, what was that? What is happening?" Thomas asked the blonde, who kept quiet.

"Everyone, I'm ordering you as the squad leader. Follow Armin's leads, and remember I will protect everyone this time." Eren ordered; the others were about to ask what was happening when Eren used his ODM Gear to jump from the building and go higher above the Ground.

"Don't Follow." Armin ordered the rest grimly as Eren was getting higher and higher above the Ground.

"Armin, what is happening?" Mina asked her boyfriend. The blonde simply looked at Eren.

This is it. It's time for us to Attack Back, Eren thought before biting his hand. The entire Trost District was illuminated for a second by a Yellow Lightning striking Eren. All the cadets paused to see and gasp at what appeared in the middle of the city. Standing 27 meters tall, the three warriors looked appalled by what they were seeing. Which Titan is that? Reiner thought, his body shaking in fear.

Eren looked at the Pure Titans approaching him. He knew his reveal would force the traitors to come out eventually. 'Fight. Fight for Freedom.' Eren let out a roar that echoed throughout the entire city before charging forward.
