To address something I saw in the comments

Hey everyone, I just wanted to address something from chapter 191 - Catching Up since I saw a few people discussing it in the comments.

I wasn't hiding anything about Flynn, and tried to hint at this a few times. But there never was a time that made sense to say it because Kai is so young, Flynn has a lot of other things going on and was also very young until recently.

As far as having a bi character goes, I saw people saying it's "shoved down their throats" but I've depicted several relationships in this series, all of them straight.

Of the characters who have been named in this series, Flynn is the only one who isn't straight. Kai, Alana, Rellan, Moui, Ele, Sabe, Oli, Uli, Ana, Lou, the governor and his wife Cressida, Valela, etc have been depicted as being in relationships that are straight or if they have one in the future will be.

I do not feel Flynn being bi should make it feel shoved down anyone's throat anymore than the many relationships that have been shown are somehow drowned out and nonexistent because sometimes Flynn might have a boyfriend.

As far as the world accepting it goes, it's fine if you think it doesn't make sense, but as a bi person myself, I didn't feel like writing a world with people who would hate me or treat me badly for it (at least not in every kingdom). So I have a character with preferences that match my own, and have him living in a kingdom that doesn’t care.

Also, remember that Elydes is not a romance story. While romantic relationships will naturally happen as the story progresses they won’t ever be the main focus.

That's all there is to it, and sorry if that upset anyone.

Thank you,

Drew

I really appreciate the bi representation. The way you did it is the farthest possible from "shoving it down people's throats". Some people will complain that *any* representation is somehow being shoved down their throats, and will only be happy when fiction pretends that queer people don't exist. You have to just ignore them; you can't satisfy them without completely giving up your principles

It was fine, I thought it was a sort of charming thing to notice about him. He’s so slick he can’t just pursue one gender :)

Flynn has always, and never won't, play on both sides of the field, in every way you can conceive. I think his character has possible betrayer vibes but i personally adore Flynn so I hope that doesnt happen c: Also I guess this is confirmation Kai is straight? Listen, don't blame me for thinking he was maybe also bi when 90% of his nonfamily/nonmentor inner circle are men and valela is the only other girl hes actively talked to since early childhood.

Classic case of the loud minority. I didnt even thinks twice about it, as it makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

??? He didn't edit it out. It's still there. It would be strange for him to edit it out tbh. He's clearly got the vast majority of his paying readership supporting him.

Ugh dont mind the haters dude, Flynn being bi makes so much sense lol, I hope this doesnt discourage you from writting

No worries about that, just hope that our MC won’t see his teasing as something serious and create distance. For Flynn being bi is quite plausible, with his free spirit and all.

Two comments. In the United States, there is ongoing vicious and destructive culture war. The other point is that some authors with reincarnated characters often seem to transition their stories to middle school and teenage romance, which would mainly appeal to young teenagers.

I’d fallen a bit behind on the story and accidentally clicked this before getting caught up. I can’t speak to how it was introduced in the story given that I haven’t gotten there yet but even from where I am currently in the story it seems perfectly reasonable for him to be bi. I think any character being bi is going to feel like it’s out of left field in a society that discourages people from being open about being queer, it’s likely not an issue with the storytelling (again, haven’t caught up yet). In any case, glad you’re able to write the world you want to write, and the title of the most recent chapter has my hyped. Looking forward to it!

I'm not upset or anything, but I understand where they're coming from as it was kind of out of left field. Not an issue in the grand scheme, but definitely unexpected.

Except it didn't 'just up and happen'. For example, him calling Ele's boyfriend "gorgeous" and basically prior to that he was 13 or younger. How do you "lead up" to someone being bi? That sentence doesn't even have meaning. The first time we even heard about Flynn going on a date was like, 15 chapters ago. Then we saw him call a man gorgeous about 10 chapters ago. And then 2 chapters ago it turns out he's also interested in men. What more build up do you need?

Doug Wills

I don't think that's the issue, it's the fact there was no leadup, it just up and happened, and people interpreted that as forceful.

The only thing that threw me about that chapter is Flynn trying to get Kai on dates, since Kai is 12? Also, isn't Flynn only 3 years older at 15? Seems kind of young, especially for a more aristocratic of feudal society. (Less for men, more so for women.)
