Dilemma

I draw in very low resolution — roughly one-ninth of what most people use. Normally, the illusion of richness comes from the interaction between the pixel-like pen texture and light brush strokes at low resolution. However, recently I’ve become interested in the clean look of high resolution, and a few of my unreleased pieces were drawn that way. The result, though, felt somewhat “empty,” as if the canvas had lost its substance. It makes sense — once the illusion disappears, only the pure brush and pen strokes remain. I’ve come to realize that achieving both the clean, refreshing feeling of high resolution and the rich, textured illusion of low resolution might be quite difficult. What do you think? I’d love to know which style you prefer — my previous low-resolution approach or the new high-resolution one I’ve been testing. +I’m also working on an SD version of the vampire character.

I prefer the low resolution style as it was but I also appreciate seeing you experiment with new styles Mr. Insact. Ultimately a balance between the two would be the best case scenario. Thank you once again for delivering us great art 🙏!

Thank you for the cute vamp, Mr. Insact. To be honest, I prefer your high-resolution works! But I believe the best thing to do is work with both resolutions until you find the balance that fits you.

Thank you so much. Your support and kind words are always the greatest motivation for me. I truly appreciate it.

That’s exactly right. I’ve also practiced a few other high-resolution pieces, but I haven’t uploaded them yet. And as you said, the reason I’ve been drawing in low resolution is because it allows me to build up shading very naturally without any special post-processing. You’re absolutely correct. Still, I do envy the clean and refreshing look that high-resolution artwork can have. I think I’ll try to find a balance between the two, just as you suggested.

Your art style is unique and incredible. However you accomplish it, keep doing it!

I prefer the lower resolution art style, however I think this is your only high res piece? As a non-artist, I think the lower resolution blends better between the line art and different shades of color. Honestly though, I don't notice the difference immediately. I would have to pay attention and turn off the "ooo pretty, I like" monkey brain mode that comes from scrolling through posts. It's easier to notice if I'm using a bigger monitor. My PC has a 27" 1440p monitor and I can tell then. Using my phone it's hard to tell. Maybe you can try different brushes for line art to try and mimic the feeling of your low res pieces? Something like a charcoal brush? I think high res only matters if you're trying to make prints or wallpapers.
