THE GOOD PLACE S1 FINALE REACTION

THE GOOD PLACE S1 FINALE REACTION

Comments

When I was watching it live, I figured out the twist before the season finale. I started being suspicious with Bart and Nina. FoxTaco, you even noted when watching the sinkhole episode that it was right on time or perfect timing or something like that. Always seemed a little too on the nose, for them to be quarantined right when they were at their lowest point, and then to add a marriage counselor and detective on top of that? So I started watching Michael more carefully after that, and there were a few times where he looked happy at how miserable Chidi was. I had fully decided that they had to be in the bad place the Mindy St. Claire episode. And for me it was confirmed when he wrote "The Good Place" in quotes on the plan in the finale. Why would he name it that if they were actually in the Good Place? And quotation marks often are used when some is saying something isn't what it seems. However, that's the last time I figured out something ahead of time the whole series. I thought I knew what Season 2 would be, and they did it in the season opener, And that's how it continued. The show zigged when I thought it would zag. But never in an unbelievable way. That's one of the many reasons I fell in love with the show. It made sense, but it wasn't formulaic in a way I could predict. (And I'm sure part of the reason I figured out the twist before the big reveal Season 1 was because of how my dad raised me with movies. Constantly quizzing me on what I was seeing, mid-movie. I still remember him pausing multiple times to ask me where the alien was while watching The Puppet Masters. Not a fun way to watch movies, but it did make me very observant and aware of formulas that films and shows can follow.)

Tahani's yellow dress always reminds me of Belle's dress from Beauty and the Beast

I've not watched your reactions to this show...yet. But that facial expression is priceless!

I cannot count the number of times I thought, "almond milk" every time you asked why Chidi was in the bad place in that last episode. :)

I've been so excited to see you react to this finale. So many have been spoiled for it by now. One thing I love is how Michael and the demons just fundamentally don't understand human nature. That a lot of our vices come from circumstances and that, when given TRUE freedom of choice, we choose to do the right thing most of the time. Shawn said humans are reluctant to torture each other, when the Fab 4 were allowed to be together in "paradise," with few real problems, they chose to better themselves and help each other. The writing on this show and its philosophy is just so good. And trust me, this show just gets better and better. It will never do what you expect. I saw one reaction channel give up after the S1 finale because they thought it would just be a rehash of S1, which was really sad to see because S2 just continues the pattern of S1, with tons of unpredictable curveballs, great writing, etc.

This show really subverts any typical β€œsitcom” expectations and that’s what makes it so exceptional. Loved seeing your reaction!

LETS GO!

We should have known Michael was a demon when he kicked a dog into the sun. 🀨 On my first watch, I was totally fooled the whole time, even though looking back, there were so many clues. Fabulous twist!

Welcome to the real show! The only two actors who knew about the twist going in were Eleanor and Michael - there is actually a video on YouTube of them revealing it to the others (while they were already filming, which is wild).
