If you get to the end of the first season without being totally in love with at least 3 characters I don't know how to satisfy you. Lol Personally I adore Jack and Anne more than any other characters. Cannot wait to hear your thoughts, but I'm pretty sure you will be a Vane man. You love a bad boy. 🤣

However the entire show is masterfully set up this season so I don’t think you can dismiss it out of hand. Separately I desperately want to give a trigger warning for upcoming episodes but idk if that’s considered a spoiler 🫠.

It is also quite a solemn look at the violence perpetrated by British colonizers in the Americas. Does it always fully land the mark in its criticisms? I'm probably not the right person to judge that. What I can say, however, is that it presents a compelling web of scheming and obsessive pursuit of ... many things. I do have to agree, despite such comments being potentially discouraging, that season 2 is where it really ramps up and things fall into place. It's been years since I watched the show and I'm excited to get back into it!

It got no where near the attention it deserved, mostly because it came out during peak Game of Thrones era. I'm glad you enjoyed the first episode. I could talk all night about each of those characters, it's so awesome and can't wait to go on this journey with you!

This episode is a great set up for our main view points, I love everyone’s introductions. You can already tell the dialogue is fantastic and just becomes more beautifully written. Also the theme song slaps so hard, iconic work by Bear McCreary. This and game of thrones intro I never skip, gets me in the pirate adventure mood!

I couldn't have stomached much more of him. 2. Who currently has the page? John Silver (is that the young guy's name who claimed to be the cook)? Or the woman with the dark hair who slept with him and also just slept with the blond woman? And boy oh boy is that man pretty. :) 3. I already love Flint's character. 4. I'm guessing this will be a show full of characters with flawed ethics and morals. LOL. Looking forward to the rest of our journey at sea!

I started rewatching when we were voting and I’m in season 3 punching the air, can’t wait till he gets there Anywho let’s go!!!!!

This show is basically a prequel to the book but adds in a bunch of real historical figures— like John Silver (the weasel), Billy Bones, and Flint are characters from the book, but Jack Rackham, Anne Bonny, and Charles Vane (the three kind of rival pirates from the other crew) were real pirates. Some of the writing in this season is rough, esp some of the writing for/about female characters. It gets noticeably better after season 1 and honestly even after this episode. But the show came out right when Game of Thrones was big and they really are using some similar tropes/tones through this season. I really think you’re going to dig Flint as well as Vane. Genuinely the most complex, morally grey protagonist I’ve ever seen on tv.
