Slowly but surely...

Every Oscar Zahn story has three elements. Oscar's story, his "co-star's" story, and then finally the story of the journey itself. Trying to get all three elements working as whole can be a maddeningly difficult process.
If we were to simplify things even further, we can say that each character's story is essentially "they need to do <blank> but they can't because <blank>".
My thus far nameless protagonist is a musician who needs to get into a thus far nameless City before dawn to play an important gig. Why is it so important to her that she play this gig? To keep a promise she made. To whom? I don't know. What's preventing her from getting to City in time? It's too far away. What can she do? Well, there's this mysterious stretch of road that makes a bee line straight to the City... but what's with all the "Do not Enter signs".
And so her adventure begins.
What's the big deal with this road? I'm not actually sure yet. Where's Oscar? Again, not completely sure (but I have a few ideas). How does the story end? I think she arrives to her gig on time but her life will never be the same after having driven on this mysterious road.
Pretty vague right? I think a lot of times we write stories just so we can find out for ourselves what happens to our characters. I don't have most of the answers to my stories but I now have some real solid questions to ask.
