22-4-5, Some Updates
Added 2022-04-05 10:41:45 +0000 UTCHello, all! I hope that you've been having a good year, or a reasonable enough year! And that, for you Northern Hemisphere folk, spring is being... reasonably springlike. This serves as an update on just a random scattering of things :P
First, the CMS I use for writing.dog doesn't do a great job of surfacing updates, which means those updates have probably been somewhat transparent. So, since the last update:
- I've corrected a bug that was leading the map viewer to fail to render on... all maps, I think, under certain circumstances (it was a problem with the way I handle map versioning, since both the Brave New World and the Hatikvah maps have versions now);
- The Brave New World map has been updated to add locations referenced in "Deskbound" as well as to add some more rivers and lakes. And the Meteor Islands, finally, which serve as the westernmost location that isn't Beyond the Known World. The Brave New World supplemental material (chiefly the name lists) also have a few new entries;
- "Deskbound," which had been a "draft," is now fully annotated. I think I'm going to stick with the Dropbox folder as a means of storing and saving drafts rather than the CMS, just because otherwise I sometimes forget to update those >.>
- The Star Patrol encyclopedia has also been updated, and I've fixed an error that caused the sector map to not work properly. The sector map itself badly needs work, but I haven't decided yet how to approach it.
Second, and more pressingly I guess. Crucible, the serialized moreauverse novel that serves as a sequel to Hatikvah, is kind of on hiatus? Military sci-fi has felt a bit more fraught over the last month. I have added a few more chapters, which are all in the Dropbox folder, which fill in the missing gaps in the story, and I will post edited versions to SF and annotated versions to writing.dog. Just... maybe not right now.
Also in the Dropbox folder are some new stories, if you are interested in having... I dunno, early access to them before I fix the typos and the plot holes and everything?
- "Leash Law" is a moreauverse story about a guy dating a dog, and his father's extreme disapproval of his choice to do so. It is a very dark moreauverse story, written as a commission, and if you found "Collateral" to be at your limit I would recommend giving this one a pass :P
- "Reasonable Hobbies" (working title) is a new, very rough Casey & Dev story that I may or may not post as-is; it ends with a sequel hook, I just haven't decided yet whether that sequel can be wrapped up in one story, or whether it's going to take a novella. In short: Casey is getting bored, and an opportunity presents itself to get into trouble. You know how she is :P
- "Excessively Familiar" (working title) is the first episode of the 7th season of the Dark Horse chronicles, following up on their adventures in the mirror universe and the revelations they found there.
Again a note re: "Leash Law" and its ilk, I am indebted to y'all (my hosting costs are now covered by you!) and you are always welcome to tell me what I should write, and I will do my best! I've really enjoyed the stories I've written as patron suggestions and it's good to get out of my own head, so :P
Anyway! Enjoy your week, and have a great day!

2022-04-05 13:22:52 +0000 UTC...Addendum. I guess what I can also do is compile a complete version of Hatikvah and upload that to Dropbox, too, since I see now the naming scheme I've used for the existing chapters is all over the place >.> if anyone is interested!
