The Yuba County 5 - Theories From The Families & More

Comments

48 years tonight, likely a night beginning with a few of the most exciting and anticipation-filled hours of their lives. Someone has information, and here's to Nick et. al. for keeping this case and the Boys in the light. 🕯️

Question about Jackie Hewitt. In your first video, you mentioned he couldn't read or write, yet his father claims he saw some of Jackie's handwriting in the trailer. Since it is very doubtful Jackie would have written the self affirmations that were reported found, it seems likely the differences between the handwriting would have made it obvious both Gary and Jackie had made it. Doesn't seem like something the investigators would have missed.

My personal opinion on why they were going up into the hills is that they were just hanging out and cruising around. We do that all the time in the hills, and if you look back at that time, it was a common thing people didjust hang out and drive around.

How did in miss this one?

Schons’ history of anger management issues and working with people with intellectual disabilities—plus having a disabled daughter—solves the mystery for me. When he said, “I should have done this years ago,” right after the incident, it really sounds like he had years of pent up anger from being a social worker (!) with his own unresolved demons concerning people with mental illness and was triggered by the boys in some way that made him act out in aggression while drunk. Once he was sober and heard the boys were still missing, he realized he was in trouble and took his daughter up the mountain to try to find the boys so he could smooth everything over. But it was too late, so he just decided to spend the rest of his life being noncommittal about the whole thing.

I hear what you're saying about Gary. I think it would have been too difficult to try and cut through the woods and go around Schons position and reach the main road again. For one, it was the middle of the night so it was very dark outside. The moon was out which created some light, but if you enter the woods in the dark you're liable to become lost immediately. The second issue would be the terrain of the area. Where Schons' car was, if you're not following the road, then you're falling down the ridge. It's just so steep on either side of the road for quite a while. This area is quite mountainous. It's full of steep ridges. Trying to climb around or over them in the dark would be awful, especially in the snow.

I was thinking about this case last night and it came to mind that besides Jack Madruga, Gary was the only other individual with normal intelligence from what I’ve read and heard. And it makes me wonder why, if heart attack guy chased them off or scared them off into the woods Gary didn’t have enough sense to backtrack to the main road through the woods? Did they not realize that he had stopped chasing them if that was the case? Why would he let them keep going deeper and deeper into the woods? I don’t understand that. And that night they said he was on his medication so he should have been acting and thinking normally. That is the part I just don’t get… he should’ve had enough sense and intelligence to have an idea of what to do in a situation like this. He was in the army for crying out loud. Every time I think well maybe he didn’t make it to the cabin, but he had to have. His shoes were there. Why would the boys carry his shoes up to the trailer if he was already gone? Someone had to wrap Ted up and take care of him. Oh, this case is enough to fry your brain.😅 but as per my last comment I 100% agree with your theory on things.

Just wanted to say I'm really enjoying this series and as always, enjoy your research and thoughtful perspective.

I think the answer to this case went with Schons to his grave. Thanks for the update. I really enjoy your channel!

There are many sources around on this case but as for others, your analysis and evaluation is practical and to the point and you do a great work in looking for materials and sources. Wright’s book seems interesting as well and I will give it a look. Until some time ago (and before knowing about your channel) the only book I found on this subject was “Out of bounds” by Drew Hurst Beeson. I wouldn’t say it is exaustive or well written but it has the merit of some research. In it and in some sources online I found two points that may be of interest: 1) It seems it was reported from some member of the families (who in turn allegedly knew this from Ayres) that a brawl, or some kind of confrontation, happened still in Chico after the match, when the boys stopped to a shop to buy some snacks. Even if this is unsubstantiated it is not unreasonable that the boys met a group of bullies on one or more car, and they left their intended route to evade them. This would explain choosing a local, winding route where they perhaps drove on for quite a while to be sure not to be followed anymore. They must have been relaxed at least for a part of their travel since they found the time to consume their snacks - something you wouldn’t worry about while being chased. Then perhaps, in a really astounding bout of bad luck, they met a drunk, wandering or snow stuck, and heavily pissed Schons. 2) Schons is depicted from a guy Beeson interviewed as someone the local police used as a source of information. This may explain the lenient, at best, treatment he had after giving contradictory testimony in a serious situation that led to the disappearance of five persons and later, the confirmed death of four. The fact that he was confronted by the families together, fed them a lot of lies again as we hear in your previous video and came out without even being sued seems to point in the direction of some kind of protection. I agree with you that he played a fundamental role in the disappearance, if he did not cause it altogether. Thanks and keep on the good work ;)
