I forget about altitude in situations like this. I live around 8,000 ft and in a high valley desert surrounded by mountains that we commonly go have fun and hike.

2025-02-08 19:05:27 +0000 UTCHypothetically, with the cold weather, he couldn’t have survived for long, so the search radius wouldn’t need to be that large. The only thing I can think of is that he wiggled himself into a small spot and was never found. Off-topic, I hike year-round, and I know that when it’s cold out, you often feel motivated to find a spot out of the wind and stop moving. But I always remind myself that in an emergency situation, the safest and smartest thing to do is to keep walking because staying in motion helps you stay warm.

I knew the altitude could be a problem and my goal was to get in and out in a short time (hopefully before the sickness kicked in). Sometimes, I do have bad luck, though. Like getting hit by a monsoon in the desert.
