(November 2018 "From the Archive") - "Graphic Historical Film Violence"

Our third album Quickly Quickly Quickly was released 6 years ago this month! During the same sessions for that album in 2012, we recorded an entire other album’s worth of material that was never released.

We intended on releasing these songs as our next album, but instead we scrapped those recordings and began working on brand new material. However, rough mixes of those original sessions from 2012 still exist. One of them we've already posted here on Patreon, a song called “Planet Moon”. "Graphic Historical Film Violence" is another one of those songs.

This song tells the story of two people with opposing views who love each other very much, but admit that their differing ideologies would see to it that their friendship would never last. Sort of a "Professor X and Magneto" friendship. My acoustic guitar part was written in a strange alternate turning that I made up. I also used that tuning for "Mister Freeze". The song title is an ironic reference to the anxiety I get when watching movies that feature extremely graphic violence (particularly in a historical setting). These films tends to affect me for days.

"Graphic Historical Film Violence" was the last song written for the entire 2012 Quickly Quickly Quickly/4th Album sessions, and was going to be the ballad of the album in the tradition of "Castle Builder", "Tumbleweeds" and "Mister Freeze". The artwork accompanying the track here was intended to become the album cover for this "Lost Album".

This recording is unfinished and VERY roughly mixed. It's the only mix that was made for this song. The bass and keyboards are excluded because we were unhappy with how they turned out and we were intending on re-recording them. This mix was made so that we could rewrite certain parts. Instead, we basically forgot all about these sessions, and decided to move on with the brand new songs that we were writing, which would eventually become Grappling

It is our pleasure to share this recording with you, our faithful Patrons, so that you can catch a behind the scenes glimpse into this very special period of the band, and hear another song that never made it out for public release. Here's "Graphic Historical Film Violence", warts and all! Enjoy!

You went all
You went all out when I came over

You went out
Out of your way to calm me down

But there are things
That we both know will never come out

In the wash
These are the things that need to be burned

To a crisp
But they don’t want to hear me say it, Lord
