Happy Thanksgiving! (November 2018 "SOMETHING NEW") - "Moonboat"

This little diddy is something that I started writing way back in the day, when I was probably about 14 or 15 years old. I wrote it immediately after learning a song from one of my favorite video games, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past (very little has changed). I called it "Moonboat" after seeing a crescent moon that looked like a boat in the sky. And then I pretty much forgot about it.

This past year, while working on songs for our next album, I stumbled upon those chords again. Something about it made me want to try and elaborate on it. So I busted out my old 1998 Yamaha PSR-195 Portable Keyboard (that I insist on continuing to use) and added some new melodies and ideas for instruments. I showed it to the rest of the band. They liked it, but then it just sort of fell to the way side.

Then a month or two ago, Joe Dorsey shared this recording with me. He had learned the song note for note and re-recorded it with much better quality keyboards. He was like, "Here you go, I did this. No big deal." (That's the kind of awesome dude Joe is.) We messed around with it for a while and tried to find a way to include it in our next album, but we just haven't found a way to make it work.

However, at the last minute, we decided to use this song as our "intro music" for the most recent show that we played, a Halloween show at Mexicali in NJ last month. We played our set while wearing a strange mismatched group of costumes: Dan Monda was dressed as Marty McFly, Pat was Doc Brown, Joe was Indiana Jones, Jamie was dressed in full lederhosen, and I was Link from the original Legend of Zelda. And as usual, everything in my life comes full circle back around to Zelda.

I hope you enjoy this whimsical piece of music, and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you beautiful people! We're so grateful your support. We love ya's!

That was so much fun!!

Joe is definitely the cooliest of beans out there! I remember this! it was so great seeing you all slowly get into position to rock our minds out on halloween \^_^/

The original version of this (before I re-recorded everything) was done on an old I believe to be 16-bit Casio. We'll post that at some point I'm sure! - Joe

I could totally see this in a Zelda game. I'd love to hear a 16 bit version of this!
