Borges 2a - A New Refutation of Time
Added 2021-06-02 00:22:00 +0000 UTCCraig and James try something new: taking on an essay rather than a story. It's a bit dense, but it explains a lot about the world of Tlon. Idealism in that story got rid of actual physical space - so why not annihilate time, too?
Full text of the essay is below as an attachment to this post.

You can also listen through a regular podcast app. It takes a minute or two to set up, but it's not hard at all. Here are the instructions.
* Intro from The Alligator, Annihilation soundtrack by Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow
* Outro from "Time Adventure" by Rebecca Sugar.
"Borges on the Most Paradoxical Dimension of Experience"

No rush, I managed to fall behind on my podcast listening and just now got to this episode, so I have another month of stuff to listen to!

2021-07-02 21:06:36 +0000 UTCI want to finish that essay. We're ready to record -- there are jsut so many things going on for both of us this summer. I think Funes the Memorius is coming out pretty soon though. That's a good one.
2021-07-02 17:35:38 +0000 UTCI'll get Craig on fixing the gap.
2021-07-02 17:08:16 +0000 UTCI just wanted to say I enjoyed this episode (except for the few minutes of silence around 30-35 minutes). It’s interesting to learn more about these philosophical things without having to read a ton.

2021-06-30 18:49:42 +0000 UTCOne of my favourite 'core' arguments is I can imagine an Existence without time, but I cannot imagine time without some kind of Existence. So time is subject to existence, not the other way around. I would then assume time is a creation within Existence, which then introduces the idea of relative space. We can already do reproducible spooky action at a distance so I believe the world is actually in serious denial about what time and space actually are and ULTIMATELY what awareness/consciousness is - this is likely our biggest wall in terms of advancing metaphysics AND science.
